『좋은 땅에 씨뿌리기』는 1618년에 출간된 로뻬의 희극작품이다. 마드리드를 배경으로 전개되는 젊은 남녀들 간의 사랑과 갈등을 매우 복잡한 이야기 구조로 풀어낸 이 연극은, 불과 2년 후 로뻬가 유사한 주제를 지닌 연극 『그것을 모두 원하는 자』를 또 다시 발표한 것으로 추정하건데, 로뻬가 개인적으로 매우 애착을 가졌던 것으로 보인다. 그럼에도 불구하고 이 연극은 오늘날까지도 학자들에게 별다른 주목을 받아오지 못하였다. 국내는 물론 스페인에서도 이 연극에 대한 심도 있는 연구는 거의 이루어지지 않고 있는 실정이다. 본 논문에서는 이렇게 적극적인 연구가 제대로 이루어지지 않아온 로뻬의 연극 『좋은 땅에 씨뿌리기』에 대한 본격적인 소개의 일환으로 이 연극을 당시에 크게 유행하던 망토와 검의 극의 관점에서 분석해보고자 한다. 망토와 검의 극을 규정짓는 세 가지의 핵심적인 특징은 관객들의 일상과 동일한 시공간적 배경의 설정, 중산층 또는 부르주아 계층이라는 당시의 관객들에게 익숙한 주인공들의 사회적 신분, 복잡다단한 구조로 전개되는 남녀 간의 사랑과 갈등의 이야기라 할 수 있는데, 『좋은 땅에 씨뿌리기』에는 이와 같은 핵심적인 성격들이 모두 온전하게 반영되어 있다. 즉, 이 연극의 배경은 마드리드의 실재하는 거리들로 설정되어져 있고, 세 쌍의 남녀주인공들은 모두 당시의 마드리드에서 흔히 볼 수 있었던 유한계급의 젊은이들이며, 이 연극에서는 이 세 쌍의 남녀 주인공들 간의 서로 얽히고설킨 사랑과 질투가 끊임없는 분규와 갈등을 통해 복잡하게 전개되고 있는 것이다. 이와 같은 사실을 통해 이 연극을 당시의 망토와 검의 극에 대한 가장 모범적인 예가 되는 작품으로 설정할 수 있을 것이다.
El sembrar en buena tierra is a comedy published in 1618 and written by Lope. This play, which centers around the love and conflict between young woman and man in Madrid, is written in a very complex structure and believed to be re-publication of Lope`s another play of a similar theme, Quien Todo Lo Quiere, to which the writer seemed to have been highly attached. Nevertheless, this play never received much attention from scholars and almost no in-depth research has been conducted on the play in South Korea or Spain. This study analyzed El Sembrar en Buena Tierra from the viewpoint of comedia de capa y espada, which was highly popular at that time, as an introduction of the play. Comedia de capa y espada is characterized by space and time setting that is similar to the daily life of the audience, social class of the protagonists as middle-class or bourgeoisie that were familiar to the audience, and love and conflict between a man and a woman unfolding in a complicated story structure, and El Sembrar En Buena Tierra reflects all of these characteristics. In other words, the setting of this play consists of actual streets in Madrid and the three couples of protagonists are all young people of leisure class that were prevalent in Madrid at that time, and melodramatic love, jealousy, entanglement, and conflict between the protagonists. Therefore, this play is the most typical example of comedia de capa y espada of the time.
