이 연구의 목적은 대학생들의 쓰기에 대한 인식을 탐색하는 데에 있다. 이를 위해 일반대학에 다니는 학생들을 대상으로 설문조사를 실시하였다. 설문 결과에 대해 빈도 분석과 함께 성별, 전공별, 성적별 인식 차이를 탐색하였다. 우선, 대학생들은 쓰기 개념을 필자의 생각을 표현하는 과정으로 인식하고 있었다. 그리고 대학생들은 쓰기의 중요성을 인식하고 있기는 하나 자신의 쓰기 능력에 대해서는 부정적이었으며, 자신의 전공과의 관련성에 대해서도 낮게 인식하고 있었다. 또한 쓰기 인식에 대한 전공별 인식에는 뚜렷한 차이가 있었다. 공학이나 자연계열 학생들에 비해 인문이나 사회계열학생들이 상대적으로 쓰기를 긍정적으로 인식하고 있었다. 끝으로, 대학생들은 오프라인 쓰기보다 온라인 쓰기를 훨씬 더 자주하고 있었다. 더 나아가 온라인과 오프라인 모두에서 여학생이 남학생보다, 인문과 사회계열이 공학계열보다, 상위집단이 하위집단보다 더 활발한 글쓰기를 하고 있음을 보여 주었다. 따라서 쓰기가 자신의 생각을 생산하고 소비하는 즐거운 경험임을 인식하게 해 주어야 한다. 그리고 자연과 공학계열 학생들의 쓰기 인식을 강화할 수 있는 방안을 모색해야 한다. 마지막으로, 온라인 중심의 새로운 쓰기 패러다임에 대한 이해가 절실하다.

The purpose of this study is to explore college students' awareness of writing. For this purpose, I conducted a survey among university students. The results were analyzed with 'the frequency analysis' and the difference in perceptions according to their genders, majors, and grades. First, college students perceived the concept of writing as a process of expressing writers' thoughts. And although they were aware of the importance of writing, they felt negative about their writing skills and their awareness on its relevance to their majors was rather low. There was also a clear difference in the perception of writing depending on students’ majors. Compared to students who major in engineering and natural science, students who major in humanities and social science were relatively more positive about writing. Finally, college students were much more likely to write online than to write offline. Furthermore, both in the online writing and in the offline writing, female students were more active than males ones, and humanities and social majors were more active than engineering ones, and students in the group of higher grades were more active than those in lower ones.
