이 연구는 중국 소재 대학에서의 한국어학과 학습자를 대상으로 하여 숙달도에 따른 학습자의 읽기 전략 사용 양상을 알아보고 읽기 전략과 읽기 능력 간의 관계를 살펴보고자 하였다. 이에 중국 삼서성에 있는 세 대학교 한국어학과 학습자 총 261명에게 읽기 전략 설문지 조사를 실시하였다. 수집된 데이터를 SPSS 통계 프로그램에 도입하여 연구 목적에 따라 독립표본 T검증, 일원분산분석, 상관분석과 회귀분석을 진행하였다. 연구결과를 요약해 보면 다음과 같았다. 첫째, 중국인 한국어 학습자의 읽기 전략 사용은 숙달도에 따른 차이가 있었으며 구체적으로 상향식·하향식·초인지 전략에 있어서 고급과 초·중급 사이에 유의한 차이가 나타났다. 둘째, 초급과 고급 학습자에게는 읽기 전략과 읽기 능력 간에 상관관계가 없었지만 중급 학습자에게는 읽기전략을 많이 사용하면 읽기 능력 향상에 적극적인 영향을 미칠 것이다. 이러한 연구 결과는 중국 대학에서의 한국어 학습자의 읽기 전략 사용양상을 전반적으로 파악함으로써 효율적인 읽기 전략 교수·학습 모형의 개발 및 전략 교육의 시점 선정에 지도적인 의의가 있을 것이다.

This study examines how learners of Korean at universities in China use reading strategies, and the relation between reading strategies and their reading ability. A survey on reading strategies was conducted among 261 learners of Korean at the departments of Korean at three universities in Shaanxi province. The collected data were then imported into SPSS and analyzed by independent-sample t-tests, one-way ANOVA, and correlation and regression tests. The results were as the followings: First, advanced, intermediate, and beginner learners showed significant differences in their use of bottom-up, top-down, and metacognitive strategies. Second, for both beginner and advanced learners, there was no correlation between the use of reading strategies and their reading ability; however, for intermediate learners, the use of reading strategies had a positive correlation with their reading ability. This study can provide an overall picture of the way the learners of Korean at universities in China use reading strategies and the implications it can have in the development of a teaching model for reading strategies and in deciding on the right timing for introducing reading strategy instruction.
