본고에서는 고려대 소장 의안 『경험방』의 저자 ‘小白累人’의 인적사항 및 생애에 대한 고증을 수행했으며, 그 결과 ‘소백누인’이 풍기군에 거주하며 의원으로 활동한 任?(1684~1754)임을 밝혀냈다. 관료문인 任道三의 庶子인 그는, 戊申亂(1728)의 역모 죄인 任環의 형이라는 이유로 풍기군의 관노가 되었고, 함께 유배된 아들 任泰?와 더불어 이 지역에 정착해 의원의 경력을 이어나갔다. 『경험방』의 저자 임정은 의원이라는 진로를 선택한 경위와 수련 과정, 동업자들과의 관계, 평생의 이력 등을 自序에서 약술했다. 그는 일찍부터 의원이라는 운명을 받아들인 뒤 거의 독학으로 一家를 이루었고 통상적인 의학 이론을 따르지 않고 남다른 처방을 실행한지라 의원 집단 내에서 평생 질시와 폄훼에 시달렸다고 술회했다. 임정은 국왕과 조정의 신료들 사이에서 두 차례나 논란이 될 정도의 존재감을 지닌 유력한 의원으로 판단된다. 『승정원일기』의 기사에 따르면 56세의 임정은 성범죄와 거주지를 이탈한 불법 의료행위로 고발을 받았는데, 6년 후 그에 따른 처분의 부당함이 제기되어 재심이 이루어졌다. 이 재심과 관련된 기사를 통해 경상도관찰사를 비롯한 상당수의 지방관들이 임정의 고객이었던 정황이 포착되며, 심지어 국왕 영조도 임정의 이력을 잘 알고 있었다고 보이는바 이는 의원으로서 그의 영향력을 방증한다.

This paper is an attempt to identify who is the author of Kyeongheombang 『經驗方』, a manuscript kept at Korea University. This manuscript is known as the medical case histories醫案 written by ‘Sobaeknuin’小白累人(the Exile of Mt. Sobaek). I confirmed that the author was a doctor, Im Jeong任?, who lived and worked in Punggi-gun(This town is located at the foot of Mt. Sobaek) since 1728. Im Jeong’ s father Im Dosam任道三 was a bureaucrat living in Seoul and famous for his poetry. Being the child of a concubine, Im Jeong could not become a bureaucrat like his father. Instead, he chose the doctor's path at an early age and has earned considerable reputation in Seoul. At the age of middle age, he was forced to exile to Punggi in connection with his brother's crime of treason(Revolt of 1728, against King Yeongjo). He settled in this area and worked with his son as a doctor. His son, Im Taehu任泰?, gained a nationwide reputation as a doctor in the late 18th century. Im Jeong became a doctor almost self-taught. He received the trust of his patients with his natural talents and extraordinary prescriptions. However, his fellow doctors, who belonged to the middle-class, were jealous of him and repeatedly criticized him. At the age of 56, he was prosecuted for sex offenses and operating out of limited residence. The King and senior officials discussed his crimes twice, and it became clear that he was an influential doctor with a reputation beyond one area. The fact that many of the senior officials of Kyungsang-do received his medical care and that the king knew his history is well represented in their discussion related to Im Jeong’s crime and retrial.
