본 논문은 한국의 중년관객을 위한 영화 리터러시 수업모델 제시를 목표로 하고 있다. 한국 영화계에 주도적인 세력으로 떠오른 중년관객층은 40세 이상부터 386세대와 베이비부머를 포함한 60세까지를 지칭하는 개념이다. 경제력을 갖춘 이들은 천만 영화를 주도해온 주소비자라는 특성을 보인다. 또한 이들은 정보통신 활용에 능숙하며 디지털미디어를 적극적으로 적응해온 영상세대이며. 산업화, 민주화, 경제위기의 굴곡진 현대사를 헤쳐 온 세대라는 특성을 갖고 있다. 인생 전환기에 자아정체 위기, 자기실현 욕구 등 심리적 어려움을 겪는 중년층이라는 것도 또 다른 특성이다. 본 수업모델은 이러한 한국 중년관객층에 맞춰 영화 리터러시 교육의 세 가지 필수요소를 담고자 하였다. 첫째, 영상언어에 대한 기본적인 지식 (샷의 특성, 앵글, 조명, 편집 등)이며, 둘째, 작품을 독해하고 분석하는 실습과정이다. 마지막으로, 글쓰기와 조별 토론과정으로 영화를 통한 소통과 공감의 장을 제공하는 것이다. 이러한 콘텐츠를 담은 수업을 강사의 준비작업, 수강생의 영화감상과 분석실습, 그리고 영화에 관한 토론과 글쓰기 등 세 가지 영역으로 나누어 구성하였다. 본 논문은 12주에 걸친 영화 리터러시 수업모델과 더불어 박찬욱의 <올드보이>와 왕가위의 <화양연화>에 관한 수업모델을 구체적으로 예시하고 있다.

This paper aims to develop a model curriculum of film literacy education adapted to match middle-aged audiences. One of the significant changes in the recent Korean film is the emergence of middle-aged audiences as powerful consumers. They are enthusiastic movie-goers; they are highly educated in information and communication sector. In spite of their need and enthusiasm for film education, the current film education is mainly focused on school students as a means of aesthetic education and artistic development. Film literacy education for the middle-aged seems an extremely neglected aspect of film education and research. For this reason, this article is designed to promote film literacy program tailored for the middle-aged audiences. The article provides a model class for the basic knowledge of film language, dealing with shots and angles, lighting and color, movement, composition, editing, and sound. The students will have the opportunity to gain a literacy to analyse and interpret visual text and film grammar. In addition, it will provide them with opportunities of critical approaches and conversations about the issues and emotions the films raise. In so doing they are empowered to read moving image texts. The age appropriate film literacy will also offer the participants fertile grounds for enlarging social network and integration. The literacy education program will function as a contact zone in which films are used as a primary source of knowledge and insight into the world we live in. The study is expected to provide a starting point for future researches into this underdeveloped aspect of film literacy education.
