Focusing on the locality of Busan, This paper examines the process of creation and fixation of prejudice, and tries to typify its aspects. Among the images of Busan, the port was the first to be adopted in films. The harbor was a place of tears and farewells in melodrama and a place of crime in action movies. The crimes at this port were mainly smuggling and espionage. However, there is no characters who speak Busan dialect, or they do not play a major role in story development. So Busan Port is presented as anonymous space where the placeness is erased. When the subject of Busan dialect takes a central role in the development of story events, At this time, the prejudice is surfaced and works. The prejudice follows the way the center has imagined the province. First, the dialect of the character works as a mechanism to fix the prejudice to the province by connecting with a specific image. Secondly, the narrative space depends on the imagination or prediction of the center, and thirdly, the hierarchical spatial division appears by the language. In this way, the film provides the imagination that is tailored to the taste of the mainstream consumer who live in Seoul. But sometimes film reveals the secret process in which the central and the local are hierarchized through alternative arrangements of tangible subjects. In this sense, the film becomes a field where central and local forces collide with linguistic spatialization.
