이 글은 박용철 시에 나타난 노스탤지어의 성격을 살펴보고 그것이 상실된 대상(고향)에 대한 정념적 반응으로서 멜랑콜리와 애도를 수반하고 있음을 확인하고자 한다. 상실된 고향에 대한 노스탤지어는 획득/도달불가능성이라는 측면에서 초월적 이상향에 대한 동경과 유사한 정념의 양상을 보인다. 박용철 시의 시적 주체는 표면적으로는 고향을 떠나 미지의 시공간으로 나아가려고 하는 의지를 드러내면서 애도 작업을 수행하는 것처럼 보이지만, 실질적으로는 고향을 상실했다는 제스처를 통해 역설적으로 고향에 대한 과도한 리비도를 투사하는 (선제된 애도로서의) 멜랑콜리의 상태를 보여준다. 초월적 이상향은 도달불가능성이란 측면에서 상실된 고향과 동일한 자리를 점하며 이에 대한 동경인 노스탤지어는 멜랑콜리를 함축하고 있다. 불가능한 대상에 대한 동경은 곧 박용철의 순수시론에서 ‘고처’에 대한 열망이라는 동일한 구조로 나타난다. 박용철의 순수시론과 시는 주체가 도달할 수 없는 초월적 지점이라는 결여/공백의 설정 없이는 전적으로 구성될 수 없다는 사실을 증명해준다. 박용철의 시에 나타난 노스탤지어는 상실된 고향/초월적 이상향에 대한 욕망이 만족되지 않는 한에서만 스스로 작동할 수 있는 것이다.

This article examines the characteristics of nostalgia in Park Yong-cheol’s poetry, and confirms that it is accompanied by melancholy and mourning as an emotional response to the lost object (hometown). The nostalgia for the lost hometown shows a similar emotional pattern of longing for a transcendent ideal in terms of acquisition/inaccessibility. The poetic subject of Park Yong-cheol’s poetry seems to perform mourning work with his intention to leave his hometown and proceed to unknown time and space on the surface, but in reality it turns out to be (as a pre-emptive mourning) melancholy of projecting an excessive libido on his home paradoxically through the gesture caused by losing his hometown. The transcendent ideal is the same place as the lost hometown in terms of unreachability, and the nostalgia connotes melancholy. In the pure poetry of Park Yong-cheol, the longing for impossible object shows the same structure as the desire for ‘ko cheo’. The pure poetry of Park Yong-cheol and poetry proves that the subject cannot be entirely composed without a lack of space, which is a transcendent point that the subject cannot reach. The nostalgia of Park Yong-cheol’s poetry can work on its own only when the desire for the lost hometown/transcendent ideal is unsatisfied.
