최근 우리 사회가 급격하게 다문화사회로 변화함에 따라 학교 교육 현장 또한 언어적·문화적으로 다양한 배경을 가진 학생들의 수가 급속하게 늘어나고 있다. 이에 다문화 배경 학습자를 중심으로 하여 학교생활 적응을 위한 도구로서의 기본적인 의사소통 능력 외에 학업 수행을 위한 학문적 언어 능력, 즉 교과 학습을 위한 학습 한국어의 필요성이 대두되고 있다. 본 연구에서는 한국어 교육과정(교육부, 2015)을 근간으로 하여 다문화 배경 학습자를 위한 효율적인 학습 한국어 능력의 향상을 위해, 초등 5-6 사회과 영역의 내용 중심 ‘탐구학습형’ 학습 한국어 교수·학습 모형과 교수·학습 설계를 중심으로 교수·학습 방안을 제안해 보았다. 이 연구에서는 다문화 배경 초등 학습자들의 사회교과 내용의 효율적인 학습과 이를 위한 학습 한국어 능력의 향상을 위해 교수학습 과정을 설계하는 데 있어 사회 교과 학습과 한국어 학습의 이원적 체계로 교수·학습 과정을 통합하여 구성하였다. 본 연구는 다문화 배경 학습자를 대상으로 하는 한국어교육 현장에서 한국어라는 언어적 요소와 사회 교과 학습이라는 인문학적 요소를 결합하여 탐구학습을 통한 교수·학습 활동을 전개해 나감으로써 학습자들의 한국어 능력 향상은 물론이고 문제해결 능력과 창의성을 향상시킬 수 있는 통합 교육적 방안을 마련하는 데 기여할 수 있을 것이다.

The Korean society changes to a multicultural society rapidly and the number of multicultural background learners is increasing. This study proposed teaching-learning measures centered on Korean language teaching-learning model and design of inquiry learning type in social studies for grades five and six of elementary school, aimed at improving the ability of multicultural family background students to efficiently learn academic Korean language on the basis of Korean language curriculum (the Ministry of Education, 2015). This study integrated the dual system of social studies learning and Korean language learning in designing the teaching-learning process for efficient learning of social studies content and academic Korean language ability for such purpose. This study will be able to contribute to devising integrated educational measures that can improve multicultural family background students’ problem-solving ability and creativity as well as enhancing their Korean language skills by developing teaching-learning activities through inquiry learning with the combination of language elements of Korean language and elements of humanities of social studies learning in the field of Korean language education whose subjects are multicultural family background students.
