외국어 학습자는 보유한 목표어의 지식이 한정되어 있고 당면한 의사소통상황에 필요한 모든 어휘 항목을 예측하여 학습할 수 없다. 따라서 자신이 가진 어휘의 범위에서 의미를 최대한 효과적으로 전달하기 위해 어휘를 사용하는 데에 다양한 전략을 동원하게 된다. 본고에서는 이 점에 주목하여 한국어 학습자들이 활용한 어휘 사용 전략을 분석하고 어휘교육에 시사점을 얻고자 하였다. 이에 중국인 한국어 학습자들이 작성한 185편의 글을 검토하여 성공한 어휘 사용 전략을 분석하였다. 중국인 한국어 학습자들은 모국어에 근거한 전략을 주로 사용하였고 메시지를 축소하더라도 의사소통을 이어나가려고 하였다. 또 중국의 문화적 내용을 바탕으로 하거나 글의 장르를 인식하여 어휘를 전략적으로 선택한 점이 특징적이었다. 이와 같이 다양한 어휘 사용 전략의 활용은 의사소통에 도움이 된다는 측면에서 향후 어휘 교육에서 전략 교육의 방향을 모색하는 데 시사점이 될 수 있을 것이다.

The vocabulary usage strategies can be seen as a part of efforts by foreign language learners to communicate their meaning effectively. From this point of view, the aim of this paper is to gain implications for vocabulary education by analyzing vocabulary usage strategies of Chinese Korean learners. The vocabulary usage strategies were extracted from 185 pieces of writings written by Chinese Korean learners. It can be implied that Chinese Korean leaners overall used a lot of mother language-oriented vocabulary usage strategies and are willing to communicate despite the reduction of messages. Additionally, it was characteristic that the vocabulary was chosen strategically according to their Chinese cultural background or perception towards genres. Since the use of various vocabulary usage strategies has been confirmed to be useful for communication, it is expected that it will help to find the direction of strategic education in vocabulary education in the future.
