This dissertation aims to examine the meaning of Lee Gwang-soo's < The Lifetime of this Woman. > Lee Gwang-soo's work transforms the narrative structure of existing melodrama. The author's gender awareness is contradictory. Further, the male characters break away from nationalism and are abstractly embodied. Most of these male characters, however, are described as bad men. The depravity of women in < The Lifetime of this Woman > is not regarded as a social problem of capitalism in the 1930s. The author has dealt with it as a personal problem. The corruption of women in this work is not caused by society but by another woman. In conclusion, the author shows the limit of women's awareness, which is revealed as inconsistent. It is commendable that the author does not describe the male characters as nationalists. The author devotes little space to describing the male characters who are represented abstractly. This work, as to the male is drawn as the character whose the most is bad to be different from the different work. This is the first work written by the author after he underwent a change in his worldview. The worldview in his works changed after the death of his son. He has a religious worldview in his work "The Death and Life One." In < The Lifetime of this Woman >, Lee Gwang-soo describes the world as an unreasonable place. In his previous works, however, he has a Buddhist worldview.
