역대 중국 고전 시가에서는 장미를 소재로 한 작품을 많이 창작하여 왔다. 본 논문에서는 장미의 다양한 품종 중에서도 역대로 가장 많이 언급된 ‘?薇’, ‘??花’, ‘月季花’ 등에 관한 작품을 살펴보고 각 꽃이 지닌 특성을 고찰해보았다. ‘薔薇’는 초여름의 신록과 함께 농염한 자태와 향기를 동반한 아름다움을 새롭게 선보이며 봄꽃 조락에 따른 아쉬움을 다독여주었다는 점에서 장미 품종 중의 선두주자라고 할수 있다. ‘??花’는 장미 중에서도 자태와 향기가 가장 뛰어나 장미의 가치를 대변하는 꽃이다. ‘薔薇’가 덩굴을 이루면서 집체적인 면모를 과시했다면 ‘??花’는 오롯이 솟아 도도하고도 화려한 자태를 뽐내는 존재라는 점에서 시각적 차이점을 느낄 수 있다. 또한 ‘??花’는 고혹적인 자태를 지녔으면서 식용, 약용에 이르기까지 다양하게 활용되어 왔기에 세인들의 삶과 매우 밀접한 효용성을 지닌 꽃이라 할 수 있다. ‘月季花’는 사계절 꽃을 피워내는 강인한 생명력으로 인해 매화에 버금가는 칭송을 받은 꽃이라 할 수 있다. 추위를 견뎌내며 인고의 세월을 보낸 후 봄의 서막을 알리는 매화와 비교할 때 계절에 상관없이 꽃을 피워내는 점은 ‘月季花’ 만의 장점이라 할 수 있다. 이처럼 역대 시인들은 각 장미 품종이 지닌 특성을 잘 포착한 기술을 가해왔으니 이러한 시문을 살펴보는 작업은 향후 각종 꽃 고유의 미학적 가치를 탐구하는 쪽으로 작업의 틀을 넓힐 수 있다는 점에서 기대감을 갖게 하는 부분이기도 하다.

This article was written to study the describe aspect of Chinese rose in Ancient Chinese poetry. The aspect of Chinese rose in ancient Chinese poetry are summarized as that : The first, the ‘Qiangwei(Rosa Jacq)’ flowers have the purest beauty in summer, it means that the ‘Qiangwei(Rosa Jacq)’ represent full of expression of beauty and dignity, and the many poetry of ‘Qiangwei(Rosa Jacq)’ are generally expressed the symbol of the beginning of summer. The second, the poetry of ‘Meiguihua(Rosa rugosa)’ are expressed as the symbol of fascinating beauty. This attribute of ‘Meiguihua(Rosa rugosa)’ beloved by all the people and many poets for represented the special beauty in their expression. The third, the poetry of ‘Yuejihua(Rosa chinensis Jacq)’ are very often used of the expression of strong vitality as well fascinating beauty. Cause of that point, people regard ‘Yuejihua(Rosa chinensis Jacq)’ as the owner of generic character. So, the ‘Yuejihua(Rosa chinensis Jacq)’ were open expressed as strong guy or strong vitality of life in ancient Chinese poetry.
