Due to the flow of immigrants including marriage migrants, foreign students and North Korean defectors, Korean society is facing an urgent call for multi-cultural policies aiming for social integration and social justice in many aspects. This new reality of Korea as a multi-cultural society requires a change in the previous discourse on unification. In the time when Christians' awareness on social unification is weakening, this study sought ways to vitalize Christian unification education for a multi-cultural society. As a process that prepares social unification in a multi-cultural society, the writer suggested some practical ways to conduct Christian unification eduction.
As for the structure of this paper, chapter 2 deals with the change in the previous discourse on unification as the society is becoming more multi-cultural. Chapter 3 discusses the current status of Christian unification education with an analysis. Chapter 4 suggests an alternative for vitalizing Christian unification education in a multi-cultural society. It should be directed toward a path overcoming the pre-existing confrontation and competition between the South and North Korea. A paradigm shift is necessary for this new era. Christian unification education should take a step further than the previous cause underlining ethnic ties; it should practice the universal value of the Bible, the Christians' role as a world citizen, forming a social consensus and integration. By doing so, the original callings for Christians will be achieved. It is hoped that this new approach and a paradigm shift in the Christian unification education for a multi-cultural society serve as a stimuli advancing the upcoming unification of Korean peninsula.
