본 연구는 인구통계학적 요인들(계층, 성별)이 경도장애(학습장애, 정서ㆍ행동장애, 경도지적장애)학생의 특수교육 선택에 어떠한 영향을 미칠 수 있는지를 알아보기 위한 것이다. 본 연구를 위해 경도장애학생의 지도 경험을 가지고 있는 초등학교 일반교사 및 특수교사 6명을 대상으로 심층면담을 실시하였다.
심층면담 결과 계층에 있어서는 중산층과 혼합계층(저소득층과 중산층)이 저소득층보다 특수교육의 선택에 더 소극적인 대처를 하고 있으며, 성별에 있어서는 여학생이 남학생보다 특수교육 선택에 더 부정적임을 알 수 있었다. 이와 함께 경도장애학생의 특수교육 선택에 있어 중요한 영향을 미치는 사람으로 일반교사와 특수교사 간에 다소 차이가 있었지만 부모가 중요한 영향을 미치는 사람이라는 것에는 공통적인 인식을 하고 있었다.
본 연구는 경도장애학생의 특수교육을 위해서는 중산층 또는 혼합계층에 있는 학생과 여학생을 대상으로 특수교육을 선택할 수 있는 다양한 방안들이 마련될 필요가 있음을 보여주고 있다. 이를 위한 방안으로 특수교육에 대한 부정적인 인식을 최소화할 수 있는 인식 개선과 경도장애학생을 중심으로 특수교육서비스를 제공하는 학습도움실(resource room)과 같은 지원서비스가 마련될 필요가 있음을 강조하였다.
The purpose of this study was to investigate how demographic factors(class and gender) influence special education selection of students with mild disabilities(learning disabilities, emotionalㆍbehavioral disabilities, mild intellectual disabilities). In order to do this, this study explored 6 elementary general and special education teachers who have teaching experiences of students with mild disabilities.
The result of in-depth interviews showed that the middle-income class and the mixed-income class(middle class and low class) took passive responses towards the selection of special education more than the low-income class, and that girl students had less positive responses than boy students in the selection of special education. In addition, although general and special education teachers have a little different perceptions about the persons who have important influences on the selection of special education of special education, they commonly perceived parents as an important stakeholder.
This study shows that the various ways to select special education for middle or mixed class students and girl students need to be prepared for the special education of students with mild disabilities. As a few ways, this study emphasized that the improvement of awareness in order to minimize the negative perceptions towards special education and the support services such as a resource room that provides special education services concentrating on students with mild disabilities.
