이 연구는 전자확대기를 주된 학습보조기로 사용하고 있는 저시력학생을 대상으로 사용상 경험을 파악하여 그에 따른 개선 요구를 알아보기 위한 목적에서 질적 연구 방법으로 수행 되었다. 연구 목적 달성을 위해 전자확대기를 최소 18개월 이상 사용하고 있는 저시력학생 6명을 심층면담하였다. 이로부터 얻은 결론은 다음과 같다. 첫째, 전자확대기 사용 경험에 대해 연구 참여 대상은 광학기구를 사용해 본 경험을 가진 학생도 있으나 대부분 중증 저시력학생이어서 전자확대기 외에는 크게 도움을 받지 못하고 있다고 언급하고 있다. 사용 동기로는 자발적 사용보다는 주변 사람들의 권유와 학교에서의 대여 지원을 통해 사용하게 되었고, 다른 광학기구에 비해 잔존시력 활용에 전자확대기가 도움이 된다는 언급이 있다. 둘째, 전자확대기 개선 요구에 대해 연구 참여 대상은 배터리 수명 증가, 미끄럼 방지, 만곡면 초점 조절, 쓰기, 가볍고 얇은 디자인, 단순한 확대기로서의 기능 개선 요구가 있고, 다양한 제품에 대한 정보 획득과 체험 기회 확대 및 저시력지원센터의 주도적인 역할에 대한 언급이 있다.

This study has the purpose to identify the experience of students with low vision to use video magnifiers as main study aid, and pursue their demands for improvement. To that end, 6 students with low vision who have been using video magnifiers for 18 months or longer were invited to in-depth interview, and as a result, the following conclusions were reached. First, as for study subjects on the experience of using video magnifier, some students have experienced to use optical aids, but the majority of students, as they have severely low vision, could not get significant help from tools other than video magnifier. As for using motivation, they happened to use through recommendation or loans from nearby people rather than using voluntarily, and video magnifier was helpful in utilizing remnant visual acuity compared with other optical aids. Second, their demands for improvement of video magnifier, subjects of study, included increase in battery lifecycle, prevention from sliding, adjustment of focal point on curved face, addition of writing capacity, lighter and thinner design, and improvement of functions in simpler structure, and they also mentioned the need for more opportunities to acquire information on and experience various products, and give self-leading role to low vision support center.
