김환과 한수미(2015)는 아동기 외상 경험과 공감능력 간의 관계를 조사하였다. 본 연구는 이를 반복 검증하였으며, 기존 연구에서 아동기 외상 경험의 설명력이 낮은 결과가 나타났는데, 이 과정에 애착이 매개역할을 할 것으로 보고 이를 검증하였다. 공감능력에 대해서는 기존 연구에서 살펴보았던 조망수용, 공감적 관심, 공감적 이해 외에 공감적 반응을 추가하여 살펴보았다. 531명의 온라인대학교 학생들에게 아동기 외상 질문지(Childhood Trauma Questionnaire: CTQ), 친밀관계경험 검사(Experiences in Close Relationships Scale-Revised: ECRS-R), 대인관계 반응성 지수(Interpersonal Reactivity Index: IRI), 토론토 정서공감 척도(Toronto Empathy Questionnaire: TEQ), 공감적 이해 소척도(Barrett-Lennard Relationship Inventory-empathic understanding)를 작성하도록 하였고, 수집한 자료를 활용하여 상관분석과 회귀분석을 통한 매개효과 분석을 시도하였다. 상관분석 결과, 아동기 외상 경험은 모든 공감 변인과 부적 상관을 보였으며, 불안애착과 회피애착 역시 공감과 부적 상관을 보였다. 매개변인으로 선정한 애착의 매개효과는 통계적으로 유의미하였으며, 불안정 애착 총점은 아동기 외상경험이 공감에 미치는 영향을 완전 매개하였다.

This study aimed to examine the relationship between early traumatic experiences and empathic ability. This study performed replication, in the existing researches explanatory power of the childhood trauma experience was low, and tried to verify that the attachment played role as a mediator in the procedure of traumatic experiences. In terms of empathic ability, it examined four factors which include perspective taking, empathic concern, empathic comprehension, and empathetic responding. 531 online college students answered the questionnaires consisting of Childhood Trauma Questionnaire(CTQ), Experiences in Close Relationships Scale-Revised(ECRS-R), Interpersonal Reactivity Index(IRI), Toronto Empathy Questionnaire(TEQ), and Barrett-Lennard Relationship Inventory-empathic understanding subscale(BLRI). Correlation analysis and regression analysis were performed on the data. As a result of correlation analysis, early traumatic experience showed the negative relationship with all empathy variables and anxious and avoidance attachment showed the negative relationship with empathy. Mediating effect of attachment which was presumed as a mediation variable was statistically significant. Unstable attachment completely mediated the effect of early traumatic experience on empathy.
