최근 국어교육 분야에서도 비판적 담화분석의 방법을 도입하고자 하는 논문들이 많이 나타났다. 이 논문은 먼저 여러 학술 분야에서 많은 관심을 받고 있는 비판적 담화분석의 문제점을 검토하고 비판적 담화분석의 방법을 중등 국어교육에 적용하기에는 문제점이 많다는 점을 제시하기 위해 작성되었다. 비판적 담화분석은 언어를 중립적인 매체로 보지 않고 이념적이며 권력적인 매체로 본다. 비판적 담화분석의 대표적인 이론가 페어클러프는 언어(담화)가 권력을 생산하고 유지하며 감추는 데 매우 긴요한 역할을 한다고 주장한다. 그래서 담화를 통해 권력이 행사되는 방법을 분석하고자 했다. 페어클러프는 CDA의 방법으로, 텍스트를 형식적으로 분석하는 ‘기술’, 텍스트와 사회관계를 검토하는 ‘해석’, 텍스트를 통해 사회구조를 분석해 내는 ‘설명’을 제시했다. 담화에서 권력과 이념을 분석하는 방법은 오랜 시간, 여러 담화의 변이 양상을 보고 연구해야 한다. 푸코는 이를 고고학(archeology)과 계보학(genealogy)이라고 불렀다. 담화의 역사적 연구를 통해 담론들이 지닌 이념을 이해하고 이를 개별적인 담화 분석에 적용한 것이다. 푸코의 방법과 상반되게 CDA에서는 일회적인 현대 담론을 통해 권력 관계를 분석하고자 하기 때문에 일상에서 자연화되어 있는 담화 관례를 통해 잠재된 권력 의미를 찾으려 하였다. 그러나 내용이 새롭지 않고 지나치게 정치적이어서 문제가 있다. 마지막으로 이 논문에서는 CDA가 정치적이고 이념적인 분석 방법이란 점을 강조한다. 그래서 교육적 중립성을 강하게 표방하고 있는 우리교육법과 교육과정에 적용되기가 힘들다고 판단했다. 이 논문에서는 이에 대한 대안으로 비판적 읽기나 비판적 문식성의 입장에서 사회·문화적 관점을 강화하는 교육 프로그램을 만들 것을 제안하고 있다.

This paper examines the problem of Critical Discourse Analysis(CDA) that is interested in various academic fields. Subsequently, This paper suggests that there are a lot of problem is applying the CDA to the secondary korean language education. CDA theorist Fairclough argues that language is not a neutral media, but a ideological, and political powerful media. Fairclough has created a three-step analysis method for analyzing the ideology of text. there are discription, and interpretation, explanation. discription analyzes a text in a language, interpretation deals with text as social relationship, explanation figures out the social structure through text. Fairclough tried to analyze social power in a text. His method is not correct because he wanted to look at the social structure through a single text. It is necessary to look at the process of discourse in a long period of time for seeing the social structure through discourse. Foucault's theory differs from that of the Fairclough In analyzing the discourse, Foucault used historic methods to analyze the discourse. Finally, this paper points out that CDA is so political and ideological that it is not suitable for secondary education. In Secondary education, it is necessary to strengthen critical literacy and critical reading rather than CDA.
