이 연구는 ‘좋은 청소년 독자’에 대한 내러티브 탐구(narrative inquiry)를 통해 좋은 청소년 독자의 독서경험을 살펴보는 것을 목적으로 한다. ‘좋은 청소년 독자’는 긍정적인 독자로서의 자기 인식을 갖고, 즐겨 읽고, 많이 읽으며 잘 읽는, 13-18세의 청소년 독자를 의미한다. 이러한 ‘좋은 청소년 독자’의 구체적인 경험을 보다 세밀하게 탐구하기 위해 내러티브 탐구 방법을 사용하여 ‘좋은 청소년 독자’ 개념에 가장 적합한 우찬의 생애사를 살펴보았다. 우찬의 생애사 내러티브는 자신의 길을 구축해나가는 이야기였다. 우찬은 독서를 통해 형성한 내적역량(empowerment)을 바탕으로 갈등 상황에 적극적으로 대응하였다. 우수한 독서능력을 바탕으로 문제를 해결하기도하고, 독서를 통해 내적 동기를 강화하기도 했다. 다양하고 깊이 있는 독서는 그를 정서적 · 인지적 고양뿐 아니라 자기 삶에서 도달하고 수행하고자 하는 과제를 높임으로써 스스로 발전할 수 있도록 이끌어주는 역할을 하고 있었다. 이러한 ‘좋은 청소년 독자’의 형성과정에 가정과 도서관이라는 문식후원 공간으로 큰 역할을 하지만 학교에서의 교과 활동 및 독서장려프로그램은 유의미한 역할을 하지 못한다. 이 과정에서 우찬은 고립독자로 성장한다. 이처럼 좋은 청소년 독자가 고립될 수밖에 없었던, 대화가 부재한교실 환경을 둘러싼 여러 맥락 대해서 다시 생각해봐야 할 것이다.

The purpose of this study is to examine the reading experiences of ‘good adolescent readers’ through a narrative inquiry. 'Good adolescent readers' refer to those adolescent readers who read a lot, and read well, with positive self-awareness. In order to investigate more precisely concrete experiences of 'a good adolescent reader,’ I explored the life history of a person named Woochan using a narrative inquiry method. The narrative of Woochan is a story about him building up a way of his own. Woochan actively responds to conflict situations based on the empowerment formed through reading. He solves problems based on his excellent reading ability, and strengthened his internal motivation through reading. In the process of a person becoming such a 'good adolescent reader,’ what played a big role as a literacy support is space like home and library, but the curriculum and reading promotion program at school failed to play a meaningful role. In this process, it is important to rethink about many contexts surrounding the classroom environment.
