이중언어강사 제도는 고학력 결혼 이주 여성들의 강점인 이중언어 구사능력과 간문화적 경험을 학교 현장에서의 다문화 교육을 위해 활용하고자 하는 목적으로 시작되었다. 이 제도는 2009년 도입되어 수년간 성공적으로 시행되었으나 2012년을 기점으로 현실적인 행·재정적 이유와 이해 관 여자들 간의 갈등으로 어려움을 겪고 있다. 이에, 본 연구에서는 학교 현장에서 활동하고 있는 이중언어강사들을 대상으로 하는 설문조사와 심층 면접을 통해 한국형 이중언어강사 제도의 운영 실태와 문제점, 이중언어강사들이 느끼는 어려움 등을 짚어보고 그 발전적인 개선 방안을 탐색해 보았다. 본 연구 결과는 향후 이중언어 강사의 전문성을 확보할 수 있는 한국어 이중언어강사 제도 개선의 기초 자료로 활용될 수 있을 것이다.

The Bilingual Instructor System in Korea, supported by Ministry of Education, was initiated in 2009 with an aim to utilize female foreign spouses’ bilingual ability and their intercultural experiences in promoting multicultural education in Korean public schools. In spite of its success, several issues such as financial problems and conflicts among those involved in it still remain in running this program. In order to explore its direction for the future, the study examined the awareness of the current bilingual instructors actually have in their schools, and the roles that experienced bilingual instructors think they should play. This study is of significance in that it will not only re-affirm the bilingual instructors’ potentials as bilingual and multicultural professionals but will also contribute to improving the Bilingual Instructor System in Korea.
