본 논문에서 우리는 인공지능 시대 교사의 역할을, 특히 국어교사의 직무 사례를 중심으로 살펴보고자 한다. 이를 위해 우선 인공지능과 기계지능 등 관련 핵심 개념을 분석한 후 가까운 미래에 등장할 인공지능은 인간처럼 비정형화된 다양한 상황에서 지적 능력을 발휘하는 ‘일반지능’이 아니라 특정 인지적 능력에서 인간을 훨씬 뛰어넘는 수행 능력을 보이는 ‘특수지능’이 될 것임을 밝힐 것이다. 아울러 이러한 기계지능이 대체할 가능성이 있는 것은 특정 직업 전체가 아니라 ‘특정 직무’이며 직무의 성격에 따라 기계지능으로의 대체가능성이 결정된다는 점을 제시한다. 이러한 논의를 바탕으로 교사 직무의 성격에도 정형적이고 기계적인 성격의 직무가 있는가 하면 비정형적 실천적 성격의 직무가 있을 수 있음을 이해하고 국어 교사의 경우도 국어교사의 특정 직무가 정형적 성격을 띠는지 혹은 비정형적 성격을 띠는지의 여부에 따라 인공지능과의 협업 가능성을 탐색해 볼 수도 있고 인공지능과의 협업보다는 비정형적 실천적 지식의 활용과 이론적 지식의 연마에 더 강조점을 둘 수도 있음을 살펴본다. 특히 인공지능으로의 대체 불가한 교사의 직무를 국어교사의 사례를 통해 구체적으로 알아보고 이러한 사례에 있어서 교사의 실천적 지식과 실천적 능력의 활용의 중요성과 함께 그 적용에 있어서 경계할 점 등을 고찰한다. 전제되고 있는 교사의 실천적 지식이나 능력의 활용이 생산적이기 위해서는 교사의 이론적 지적 전문성의 연마와 실천적 지식이나 능력에 대한 정확한 판단 역시 여전히 인공지능 시대 좋은 수업을 수행하기 위한 주요 토대가 된다는 점을 확인한다.

We examine the role of teachers in the age of artificial intelligence(AI), especially the case of the tasks for Korean teachers. We first analyze some central concepts including machine intelligence and the diference between speical intelligence and general intelligence. We then claim that special rather than general intelligence will dominate near future AI research and applications, and that the most likely consequence of AI technology will not be the total replacement of human jobs, but rather selective replacement of specific tasks which can be relatively easily implementable by machine. Based on this general analysis we notice there are more structured and well-defined tasks and less well-defined and therefore more practical tasks within the task range of Korean teachers. For the first type of tasks, we suggest the collaborative work between human teachers and AI will be more productive, while for the second type, the combination of practical knowledge and theoretical knowledge is more crucial for the successful accomplishment of the tasks. In sum we propose that Korean teachers should pay attention to acquiring practical and theoretical knowledge to lead fruitful classes in the age of AI.
