이 글은 지금까지 이루어진 국어교육 영역에서의 학습자의 국어능력 발달에 대한 선행 연구를 바탕으로 학습자의 국어능력 발달에 대한 종합적이고 체계적인 종단 연구를 시행하기 위한 연구 내용과 방법을 제안하기 위한 것이다. 본고에서는 학습자의 국어능력 발달 연구의 내용으로 ‘언어·텍스트’. ‘사고·태도’.‘맥락·사회적 상호작용’의 세 축을 기준으로 국어능력이 발달 연구 내용을 설정하였다. 또한 연구의 내용을 선정할 때 고려해야 할 사항은 다음과 같다. 첫째, 학습자뿐 아니라 교사, 학부모, 학교, 지역사회의 맥락을 포함하는 방향으로 이루어질 필요가 있다. 둘째, 학습자의 국어능력 발달 연구는 급격한 변화를 보이는 시점에 대해 각 영역별 세부 능력의 변화 양상을 분석할 필요가 있다 셋째, 각 영역의 균형 있는 자료 수집을 바탕으로 하되 표현 영역에 있어서 구어 자료의 수집을 보완해 나가야 한다. 넷째, 초기문식성에 관련된 지표를 개발하고 이를 강화해 나갈 필요가 있다. 다섯째, 매체 환경의 변화에 따른 학습자의 의사소통 방식과 표현과 이해의 양상 변화를 반영할 수 있어야 한다. 학습자의 국어능력 발달을 위한 연구의 방법을 설계할 때에는 조사 시기와 방법에 대해 기존의 종단 연구를 참고하여 중다전망적 패널 설계를 하되 연구 방법에 있어서 설문조사 이외의 면접, 관찰, 녹화 등의 방법이 다양하게 활용될 필요가 있고, 영역 통합적이면서도 실제적인 언어사용의 맥락을 반영할 필요가 있다

The study of learners’ development of Korean language ability is a core area of Korean language education research. The aim of this study is to propose the contents and methods for a comprehensive and systematic longitudinal research design based on previous studies dealing with the development of Korean language ability of learners.Some points to consider when selecting the contents of the study for the development of Korean language ability of learners are as follows. First, the scope of research needs to be encompass not only the learner but also the learning context, including teachers, parents, school, and the community. Second, the rapid change point of language development needs to be explicated. Third, based on the balanced data collection in each area, learners’ oral data should be complemented. Fourth, indicators related to early literacy must be developed and strengthened. Fifth, changes in the media environment must be considered so that the contents reflect the new ways of communication, expressions, and understanding of learners. Therefore, a multiple point prospective panel design and various survey methods, such as interviewing, observation, and recoding need to be used when designing a research method for the development of Korean language ability of a learner.
