현전하는 훈민정음 해례본의 권두에 두 장의 낙장이 있었고, 이것을 1940년 발견 당시에 보사(補寫)해 넣었다. 이로 인해 이 책의 권두서명과 병서 행 처리문제가 쟁점이 되어 왔다. 필자는 해례본의 정음편과 정음해례편의 내적 연계관계를 중시하여 권두서명을 찾아냈고, 해례본 및 언해본의 행 구분 실태를 정밀하게 분석하여 병서 행 줄바꿈 문제에 대한 해결 방안을 제시했다. 필자는 해례본 텍스트 안에 나타난 내적 증거를 찾아내었고, 세종실록의 기사와 언해본 권두의 판식 안배를 통해 도출된 연구 결과를 고려하여, 정음편의 권두서명을 ‘訓民正音’으로 판단했으며 이것을 해례본 전체의 책이름으로 삼았다. 병서 행줄바꿈 문제에 대해서는 해례본 텍스트 내적 증거 세 가지와 외적 증거 두 가지를 제시하고 병서 행 붙임설이 옳음을 논증하였다. 병서 행 줄바꿈설이 추정적 해석을 통해 나온 것임에 비해, 병서 행 붙임설은 해례본의 텍스트 내적 증거 및 외적 증거를 갖추고 있다. 권두서명과 병서 행에 관련된 문제의 해결은 해례본의 낙장 복원을 위해 중요한 의미를 가진다. 이 논문의 연구 결과는 권두서명과 병서 행에 관한 논란을 해소하는 데 기여할 수 있다.

This paper carefully examines the intra-textual connection between the Jeongeum Volume and the Jeongeum Haerye Volume of the Haerye Edition in order to determine what the head title on the lost pages should be, and closely analyse show columns are divided in the Haerye Edition and the Eonhae Edition in order to settle the issue regarding the segmentation of columns. I argue that there are five types of evidence, either internal or external to the text of the Haerye Edition, to underpin the claim that ‘Hunminjeongeum’ should be considered as the head title. By examining the text itself of the Haerye Editionas well as other research on the textual arrangement of the Sejong Chronicles and considering the incipit of the Eonhae Edition, I come to the conclusion that the head title of the Jeongeum Volume can only be ‘Hunminjeongeum’. As for the segmentation of the ‘double consonant letter’ passage into a new column, I present three intra-textual and two extra-textual arguments for the continuity of the ‘double consonant letter’ passage to the previous content. Indeed, compared to the segmentation hypothesis, there are more intra- and extra-textual evidence that supports the continuity theory.
