본고는 다큐멘터리로 제작된 「김연수의 열하일기」를 통해 고전문학의 문화콘텐츠화 전략과 그 의의를 살펴보았다. 먼저 『열하일기』에 관한 문화콘텐츠화 논의와 사례를 살펴봄으로써 『열하일기』의 문화콘텐츠화 가능성 및 개발 방향을 논의하였다. 한편, 「김연수의 열하일기」는 『열하일기』를 원천 소재로 제작된 다큐멘터리로, 『열하일기』를 소개하면서 다른 한편으로 서사구조와 인물 구성, 시청각화 기법을 통해 다큐멘터리의 중심메시지를 함께 전달하고 있다. 「김연수의 열하일기」는 고전문학을 문화콘텐츠화 하여 제작된 다큐멘터리라는 점에서 ‘트랜스미디어 콘텐츠(transmedia contents)’라 할 수 있다. 그리고 「김연수의 열하일기」는 원천소재인 『열하일기』를 복합 감각의 전자 매체로 전환함으로써 새로운 미디어 공간에서 전승하며, 고전으로서 『열하일기』가 가지는 현재적 가치를 탐색한다는 점에서 그 의의를 찾을 수 있다.

This paper examines the strategy and significance of the conversion of classical literature to cultural contents through the documentary Yeolha-Ilgi of Kim Yeon-su. First, I researched the creation and development directions of Yeolha-Ilgi in terms of its cultural contents by examing discussions and examples related to Yeolha-Ilgi. Yeolha-Ilgi of Kim Yeon-su is a documentary film that illuminates aspects of Yeolha-Ilgi, On the one hand this Yeolha-Ilgi of Kim Yeon-su introduces the message of Yeolha-Ilgi, and on the other this documentary film delivers messages that are central to the documentary genre through its narrative structure, character composition, and audio-visualization techniques. Yeolha-Ilgi of Kim Yeon-su can be regarded as an example of ‘Transmedia Contents’, because this film converted classical literature to cultural contents. Also, the conversion of Yeolha-Ilgi of Kim Yeon-su which can be found in multi-sensory media is significant and investigate the current value of classical literature.
