이 연구의 목적은 첫째, 작문에서의 문장 학습잠재력 진단평가 도구를 마련하는 것이다. 둘째는 작문교육 상황에서 문장교육의 필요성이 있는 학습자를 진단하고, 문장교육을 시행하여 효과성을 확인하는 것이다. 셋째는 작문능력 발달을 위해 문장교육이 필요한 학습자의 특성을 도출하는 것이다. 연구 방법은 교수대화를 기반으로 문장학습이 필요한 학습자를 진단한 뒤, 표준화된 문장 학습잠재력 진단평가 도구를 마련하여 학습자의 자기평가 결과를 바탕으로 연구 참여자들의 문장 학습잠재력 지수를 산출하고 이를 비교·분석하는 방법을 사용하였다. 연구 참여자는 고1 필자 2명과 중3 필자 4명 등 총 6명으로 학교에서 내신 성적이 상위권이며 글쓰기 능력 신장에 대한 동기가 있어 자발적으로 지원한 학생들이었다. 연구 결과, 교수대화를 통해서 문장학습이 필요한 학습자 E가 진단되었다. 학습자 E는 내용 생성에는 어려움을 느끼지 않았으나 문장을 중심으로 한 표현하기에 어려움을 느끼고 있었다. 문장학습 이후 글쓰기에 도움을 받은 문장학습 내용은 <기본문형 쓰기>와 <문장 고쳐쓰기> 학습 중 일부였다. 표준화된 문장 학습잠재력 진단평가 도구로 학습자 E의 근접발달영역을 평가한 결과, 2회차에 걸친 문장학습에서 기본문형 쓰기는 급격하게 현재적 능력으로 변화하는 양상을 보였으며, <문장의 길이 조절>은 모든 문항이 근접발달영역에 남아있어 학습잠재력이 있는 교육 내용이었다. 다른 학습자들과의 지수 비교 결과, 문장학습이 필요하지 않다고 응답한 4명의 학습자는 전체적인 지수가 급격하게 변화하고 미지의 영역이 거의 없는데 반해, 문장학습이 필요하다고 응답한 학습자 2명은 전체적인 지수가 급격하게 변화하지 않았고, 미지의 영역이 많이 남아있었다.

As a result of the index comparison with other learners, four learners who did not need sentence learning showed that the overall index changed drastically and there were few unknown areas. In contrast, two learners who answered that they needed sentence learning, It was not changed, and many unknown areas remained.
