콧수염은 성인 남성의 인중에서 돋아나는 체모의 일종이다. 또 그것은 털의 일종이라는 특성을 갖고 있기 때문에 신체의 일부이지만 제거하거나 다시 자라도록 놓아 둘 수 있다. 대체적으로 인간은 얼굴의 생김새에 따라 정체성이 정해지는데 콧수염은 얼굴의 중심에 위치하기 때문에 한 개인의 정체성을 좌우하는데 영향을 끼친다. 본고는 콧수염을 다룬 각각 프랑스, 스페인, 한국 작가인 카레르, 미야스, 권리의 작품들을 분석해 보고 그 상징적 의미와 또 콧수염과 정체성과의 관계를 알아보는 것을 목적으로 한다. 이들 작가의 작품들은 공통적으로 콧수염을 소재로 취하고 있고 또 작중인물들은 콧수염의 유무에 따라 정체성의 변화를 겪는다. 카레르의 경우 작중인물은 콧수염을 밀면서 현실의 위기를 맞게 되고, 미야스의 경우 가짜 콧수염을 부착하면서 현실을 벗어나 다른 세계로 나아간다. 그리고 권리의 경우 어느 날 여성인물은 다시 현실로 돌아오면서 자신의 콧수염을 발견한다. 세 명의 서로 다른 작가의 각각의 작품들은 콧수염이라는 이런 손가락만한 한 줌도 안되는 체모를 소재로 여러 가지 상징적인 의미를 보여주고 또 공통적으로 정체성 문제를 다루고 있다.

Physically speaking, the mustache is a kind of body hairs for men and grows up on the center of the human face. It can be removed and let grow it up naturally as a type of hair and removable one at any time. However, it also represent psychological meanings and give a great influence on forming an human identity through its appearance on the human face. This article aims to analyze with comparative ways of observing among the works of French writer Emmanuel Carrere, Spanish Juan Jose Millas and Kwon Ri as Korean female author. These authors deal with the mustache as their writing material and tried to identify what kinds of symbolic meaning it has and interestingly analyzed the relationship between the mustache and human identity. The works of them commonly recognized that the mustache strongly impact on forming of human personages and change of identity based on whether a man has it or not. For Carrere and in his works, he interprets when a character faced a crisis, it occurred after shaving his mustache. On the other hand and for Millas, he finds out a character who recovered from hard reality after attaching a fake mustache. Kwon Ri also develop a character in his(her) works which a woman discovered her(his) identity with mustache. The works of three different authors interpreted the mustache with various symbolic meanings and deal with the relationship between mustache and identity forming respectively.
