본고는 아깟담껑의 작품들을 통해 태국 상위계층의 세계관에 대해 알아보는데 목적이 있다. 여기서 상위계층은 왕족, 귀족이거나 사회 지도자계층의 위치에 있는 인물이다. 연구 범위는 장편소설 『삶의 연극』, 『누런 피부 하얀 피부』, 단편소설집 『무너진 낙원』에 실린 4 작품으로 「세속의 길」, 「사춘기」, 「궁정 없는 왕족」, 「상류사회」를 대상으로 한다. 연구방법은 아깟담껑의 작품들을 기본적으로 활용하여 종합적으로 살펴보며, 부차적으로 실증적 분석을 위해 태국 역사학자들의 저서를 일부 활용한다. 결론적으로, 아깟담껑은 작품을 통해 인간의 터전을 태국에만 한정짓지 않고 세계적으로 확대하려는 공간 개념을 시도한다. 하지만 그는 상위계층의 왕족이나 사회 지도자의 경우는 태국을 위한 희생정신이 필요한 것으로 보고, 태국을 중심으로 보는 시각에서 벗어나지 못하는 것을 보여준다. 이는 태국과 왕족을 의식하지 않을 수 없는 사회 환경과 분위기에 기인한 것으로 사료된다. 아깟담껑은 재물이 우위인 자본주의 시대에도 사회 지도자의 자질로 인품을 으뜸으로 본다. 멈짜오 서열의 왕족인 그는 조국 태국에서 신분에 걸맞게 살지 못하고 홍콩에서 사망한다.

This study seeks to explore the world view held by Thailand's upper class as seen through the works of Momchao Akatdamkoeng Raphiphat. Here, the upper class refers to the members of the royalty, the nobility or those in positions of leadership. This paper looks at novels such as The Circus of Life and Yellow Skin, White Skin, and four short stories: "The Secular Way", "Adolescence", "Royal without Court" and "High Society" from his collection of short stories Paradise Collapsed. This study uses Akatdamkoeng's works as its basis for comprehensive assessment, as well as some of the works of Thai historians for secondary empirical analysis. In sum, Akatdamkoeng attempted to establish a spatial concept where home is found not only in Thailand but the world as a whole. However, the royalty and the societal leaders needed self-sacrificial mentality and failed to break out of their Thai-centric views. This is due to the social environment and atmosphere that imposed royal family's presence on its constituents. Akatdamkoeng valued character among all of the qualifications a social leader might need, even in the era of capitalism where wealth supersedes everything. Despite his Mom Chao rank as a Thai royalty, Akatdamkoeng departed from his home country and spent last of his days in Hong Kong. It seems that, ultimately, his literary attempts to illustrate the dark side of Thailand's upper class were not received well by his contemporaries.
