오늘날 패션 분야는 날로 심각해지는 환경문제와 그에 따른 변화의 요구에 지속 가능하며 환경 친화적인 방법들에 관한 연구가 활발하게 진행되고 있다. 이 중 제로 웨이스트 패션디자인은 사전에 철저한 계획으로 폐기물을 완전히 없애거나 줄이는 방법으로 의류폐기물에 대한 실천적 대안으로 주목되고 있다. 이러한 추세에 따라 본 연구는 종이접기 기법이 사각형의 평면적 공간이 버려지는 부분 없이 모두 소진되는 점에 있어서 제로 웨이스트 개념에 부합하고 접기 방법에 따라 무한한 형태의 변화가 가능하다는 점에서 종이접기를 창의적이고 조형적인 제로 웨이스트 패션디자인 실현의 방법으로서 채택하였다. 이에 종이접기의 조형미를 율동미, 중첩의 미, 선적 조형미, 부조적 형태미로 분석하고 이를 디자인에 구조적 또는 장식적으로 적용하여 4벌의 조형적인 제로 웨이스트 디자인을 제시함에 목적을 두고 제로 웨이스트 디자인 방법의 규범적 한계를 극복하고자 하였다. 연구의 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 환경을 고려하는 제로 웨이스트 패션디자인 실현의 의의를 가지고 종이접기방식을 적용한 결과, 급변하는 트렌드에 영향 받지 않는 독창적인 디자인과 기존의 제작방식을 간소화하는 하나의 혁신적인 제로 웨이스트 패션디자인 방법이 될 수 있음을 확인하였다. 둘째, 접는 방법에 따라 다양한 형태로 변형이 가능한 종이접기의 특성에 따라 사각의 원단을 드레스, 스커트, 판초, 베스트 등 다양한 패션 아이템으로 구성할 수 있음을 확인하였다. 셋째, 폐기물을 현저히 줄이며 제로 웨이스트 패션 실현의 효과적인 대안이 될 수 있음을 확인할 수 있었다. 실제 작품을 제작하며 셀비지 부분만이 폐기되어 기존의 제작방식에 비해 폐기물 감소 효과가 높음을 입증하였다. 넷째, 접기를 통해 독창적인 실루엣과 디테일들이 구현되며 평면에서보다 굴곡이 있는 인체 위에서 그 조형미가 강조되었다. 접은 선과 면들이 인체 위에서 자연스럽게 펼쳐지며 율동미와 부조적 입체미가 강조되었고 소재에 따라 접혀진 면이 농담으로 나타나 장식적 효과를 주거나 광택에 의한 명암의 대비로 그 조형미가 강조되는 것을 볼 수 있었다. 이상의 결과를 통해 친환경적인 목적과 의지가 종이접기의 조형미와 결합되어 독창적인 디자인으로 발현될 수 있음을 확인할 수 있었으며 앞으로도 더 다양한 연구와 시도들을 계속 해나간다면 친환경적이고 윤리적인 패션의 하나의 실천적 방안으로 발전해 나갈 수 있으리라 기대한다.

In today's fashion field, research is being actively conducted on sustainable and eco-friendly ways to deal with growing environmental issues and the demands of changes that follow. Of these, the zero waste fashion design is seen as a viable alternative to eliminate or reduce fabric waste with a thorough plan in advance. This study used paper-folding which meets the concept of zero waste by exhausting the whole space of rectangles with infinite forms. Therefore, this study analyzes the formative features of paper-folding with rhythmical beauty, beauty of overlapping, beauty of straight line and formative beauty of relief and aims to suggests 4 pieces of zero waste fashion designs by applying them structurally and decoratively. The conclusions drawn from this study are as following. First, creative designs which not be affected by rapidly changing trends have been realized and this could be an innovative way to streamline traditional way of production. Second, rectangular fabric can be composed of a variety of fashion items such as dresses, skirts, ponchos, vests etc., by the characteristic of paper-folding. Third, it is confirmed that this would significantly reduce fabric waste and become an effective alternative to realize zero waste fashion. When making the actual works, only the selvage portions were disposed of, it is proved to be effective in reducing waste. Fourth, creative silhouettes and details were delivered and the formative beauties of rhythm, overlapping, straight line and relief were emphasized more on a curved human body than on a flat surface. Specially the formative beauty of relief was emphasized over the moving body and decorative effect by light and shade or contrast to gloss appeared by materials. Furthermore, if methods to combine various motives and techniques for more versatile designs are studied to further develop based on this study, there is potential with unlimited expansion.
