본 연구는 ＜말＞, ＜말 1＞, ＜말 2＞를 연작으로 보고 ＜말 1＞, ＜말 2＞의 의미를 본격적으로 해석하는 동시에 연작을 통해 전변하는 문제의식을 추적한다. 이 논문은 기존 연구에서 정지용의 시에 결여되어 있는 것으로 파악했던 계몽 의지와 저항 의식의 존재를 발견하고 있다. ＜말 1＞은 문학을 통해 식민지 청년들을 각성시키려는 계몽적 의지가 말의 질주라는 장관을 연출한다. ＜말 2＞는 계몽주의의 한계를 반성하면서 식민지 청년들을 민족적 정체성을 발견하고 구성하는 주체로 재발견한다. 이러한 변화는 말 연작 속의 화자의 관점과 역할 변화로 드러난다. 또한 말 연작에서 정지용은 근대시를 학습하고 훈련하기 위해 창작했던 일어시와 결별을 선언하고 문학적 자부심을 표출하며, 우리말 시를 통해 민족적 정체성 완성에 이바지하기 위한 여정을 떠난다.

This study sees “Horse”, “Horse 1” and “Horse 2” as a series, interprets the meaning of “Horse 1” and “Horse 2” and traces the changing consciousness through series. This paper finds the existence of enlightenment will and resistance consciousness that had been found to be lacking in the poetry of Jung Ji-yong in the previous research. “Horse 1” represents a spectacular view of rushing horse that the enlightened will to awaken the colonial youth through literature. Reflecting the limits of the enlightenment, “Horse 2” rediscovers colonial youth as the subject that discovers and constitutes national identity. This change is manifested by the change of the speaker’s point of view and role in his serial works on horse. Also in the series, Jung Ji-yong expresses his literary pride by declaring a break with poems that he has written in japanese to learn and train modern poetry, and leaves the journey to contribute to the completion of national identity through Korean poetry.
