이 논문은 한낙원의 초기 과학소설인 <잃어버린 소년>과 ≪금성탐험대≫에서 소년이 어떻게 이상적 남성상으로 만들어지고 미래 과학의 지도자로 구상되었는지를 살펴보았다. 한낙원의 과학소설은 당대 세계 과학담론과 연동되어 있으며, 현대과학이 처한 딜레마를 해결하기 위한 예측된 미래를 그린 것이다. 우주시대 ‘소년’은 세계적 난제들을 돌파해나가기 위해 고안된 장치였다. 이때 소년들이 구성된 방식은 다음과 같다. 첫째, 소년들은 과학지식과 높은 도덕성이 체화된 탁월한 몸의 능력을 통해 만들어진 이상적 존재이다. 소년들은 이상화된 몸을 가진 존재로서, 지구전쟁(냉전)과 우주전쟁에서 승리함으로써 세계적 지도자로 성장한다. 둘째, 소년들은 지배적 남성들과의 대비를 통해 우월한 남성의 지위를 획득하고, 소녀들과의 젠더 위계화를 통해 특권적 존재로 승격한다. 즉 소년들은 노과학자, 패권적 남성, 소녀들과의 대비를 통해 미래의 지도자가 된다. 즉 한낙원의 과학소설에서 소년들은 이상적이고 특권화된 남성-과학자-소년들로 범주화되며, 미래세계의 과학적 지도자로 호명되었다. 이 시기 청소년용 창작과학소설은 단지 흥미와 계몽을 위한 독서행위, 부강한 근대과학국가 건설이라는 목적으로 기획된 것만은 아니다. 한낙원은 막다른 위기에 처한 냉전과학과 세계정치에 대한 비전을 소년에게서 찾고자 했다. 초기 한낙원의 과학소설은 특권화된 남성-과학자-소년을 중심으로, 냉전과학과 세계정치, 미래한국에 대한 비전이 균열된 채 결합된 과학적 상상력의 보고라고 할 수 있다.

This article examined how the boy was made into an ideal male figure and conceive d as the future science leader in the early science novels of Nak-won Han such as < Lost Boy > and < Venus Expedition >. Han’s scientific novels are interlinked with global scientific discourse of the time and are dealing with the predicted future to solve the dilemma of modern science. The ‘boys’ in the space age were the devices designed to break through global challenges. The way the boys are composed is as follows. First, the boys are the ideal beings created through the outstanding capabilities of the body embodying scientific knowledge and lofty morality. As the beings with outstanding body which embodies scientific knowledge and morality, boys grow into the global leader by winning the earth war (cold war) and space war. Second, the boys acquired the status of superior men through the contrast with dominant men and raised in status as privileged beings through the gender hierarchization with girls. In other words, boys were given the privilege as the future leader through the elder scientists, hegemonic men, and contrast with girls. The youth creative scientific novels at this time were not only designed for reading activities for interest and enlightenment, and for the purpose of building a strong modern scientific state. Han tried to find from the boy a new vision of cold war science and world politics, which was at a crisis. Han’s early scientific novels can be said to be the treasures of scientific imagination focused on privileged male - scientist - boy, where the visions for Cold War Science, World Politics and Future Korea are cracked and combined.
