본 연구는 설문조사를 통해 한국인과 중국인 학부생의 동물 상징 인식을 비교한 연구이다. 상징에는 한 문화의 핵심이 담겨 있다. 따라서 상징이 전통 문화의 일부로서만 존재하는 것이 아니라 현대 생활에서도 어떻게 작용하고 있는지 그 양상을 살펴보는 것은 문화적 원형을 이해하기 위한 기초가 된다. 특히 동물 상징은 상징의 여러 주제 중 가장 대표적인 상징으로 인간과 가장 친숙한 동물이 가지는 상징은 하나의 문화 공동체가 공유하고 있는 사고방식, 정서 등을 파악할 수 있는 중요한 주제가 된다. 동물 상징에 대한 인식의 차이는 일상생활에서 선물 문화, 속신, 비유 표현 등 다양한 차이로 표출되는데 본 연구에서는 총 6개의 설문 문항을 구성하여 한국 대학생과 중국인 유학생의 동물 상징 인식의 공통점과 차이점을 살펴보고자 하였다. 동물 상징에 대해 한국인과 중국인 학부생이 실제로 어떻게 인식하고 있는지 그 공통점과 차이점을 살펴보는 것은 양국의 문화적 원형에 보다 실제적으로 접근할 수 있는 하나의 방법이 되며, 여기에서 도출된 연구 결과는 한국인과 중국인 유학생의 문화 간 의사소통 능력 향상을 위한 기초 교육 자료, 유학생을 위한 한국 문화 교육의 기초 자료로 활용될 수 있을 것이다.

This study is about a comparison of animal symbols perception between Korean and Chinese undergraduates through a survey. Symbols contain an essence of culture. Accordingly, to examine how symbols act in modern life, not only an existence as a part of traditional culture, is basic for understanding cultural archetype. Animal symbols, especially, which are most representative among various subjects of symbols and very familiar to humans, are important subject to understand a way of thinking and emotions that one cultural community shares. A difference of perception for animal symbols is shown diversely in daily life, such as gift culture, folk-belief, and comparative expression. This study made a total of six questions to examine a common feature and difference of animal symbols perception between Korean and Chinese students. To examine a common feature and difference about how Korean and Chinese undergraduates actually perceive animal symbols, is one method to access cultural archetype of both countries more closely. The results of this study might be applied as a basic material for improving intercultural communicative competence between Korean and Chinese students, as well as for Korean culture education for international students.
