이 논문에서는 그림책 독서 활동을 일종의 ‘이야기판’으로 보고, 이 공간에서 이루어진 이야기 소통 방식을 ‘집단적 자기서사’로 해석하였다. 여성노인 독자는 그림책 독서 활동에서 다음과 같이 집단적으로 이야기를 만든다. 1) 참여자는 이야기꾼이자 청중이 되어 협력적으로 이야기를 만든다. 참여자간의 동질감과 공유할 수 있는 경험이 자기서사의 요건이 된다. 2) 이야기꾼의 구술 생애담에 청중이 개입하여 이야기를 함께 만든다. 이야기꾼은 ‘이야기되는 나’를 행위의 주체자로 묘사하여 당시의 상황을 해석하고, 그가 무엇을 생각했고, 왜 그렇게 행동했는지는 ‘이야기하는 나’의 시점에서 설명한다. 청중은 구술 생애담에 대해 질문과 평가를 하면서 이야기의 완결성을 높인다. 집단적 자기서사에는 이와 같은 두 가지 방식이 있다. 백세 시대를 앞두고 노인들이 신체적으로 정신적으로 건강하게 보내기 위해서는 노인들을 위한 이야기판이 필요하다. 독서 모임은 책을 중심으로 자연스럽게 이야기판을 펼쳐 참여자간의 동질감과 공유된 기억을 활성화할 수 있는 공간이다. 이 논문이 노인을 대상으로 하는 문학치료 방법의 하나로 자리매김할 수 있기를 기대한다.

In this paper, a book circle regarded as a type of “storytelling site”, and the story communication method in this space is interpreted as “collective epic of self”. The elderly women at the book circle produced a story together as follows: 1) The participants become storytellers and audiences and completed one story cooperatively. The story is made from the sense of identity and shared experiences of participants. 2) The storyteller composes her oral life stories with the help of the audiences. The storyteller describes the situation of the time by describing the narrated narrative as the subject of the narrative, and explains what she thought and why she acted in the narrative. The audience improves the final story by questioning and evaluating the life story. Thus, a collective epic of self have two ways in the above. For someone to be physically and mentally healthy at the age of 100, a storytelling site for the elderly is needed. A book circle is a space where storytelling naturally unfolds, centering on the book, and it can activate shared feelings and memories among participants. I hope that this research will demonstrate a method of the literary therapeutics for the elderly.
