본 논문은 『논어정의』(論語正義)에 나타난 허사 훈석에 대해 『경전석사』(經傳釋詞)의 인용 상황 및 기타 허사 훈석을 비교하고, 이를 통해 그 특징을 논의하는 것을 목표로 한다. 『논어정의』에서는 『경전석사』를 직접 인용함으로써 허사에 대한 설명을 대신하기도 하고, 허사에 대해 설명한 후 『경전석사』로 방증, 여러 다른 의견 중 하나로 제시 하기도 하는 등의 다양한 인용방식을 드러냈다. 허사 인용에 있어서의 특징은 다음과 같다. 『논어』 내에 나타나는 허사에 대한 다양한 관점과 풀이를 폭넓은 방증 자료를 통해 제시하고 논의하였다는 점이다. 그리고 자신의 의견을 더하여 『논어』에서의 허사에 대한 한 단계 발전된 설명을 제시한 것이다. 이러한 일련의 연구 방식은 『논어』에 대한 소증(疏證)으로서의 『논어정의』가 가지는 학문적 태도에서 기인한 것으로 본 논문에서는 파악하였다.

This paper aims to investigate the aspects of annotations of function words in Lunyuzhengyi (論語正義, A comprehensive annotation of the Analects) by way of quoting Jingzhuanshici (經傳釋詞, An explanation of function words in Chinese classics), and to discuss its characteristics. There are many systems of annotations of function words in Lunyuzhengyi (論語正義). For example, Lunyuzhengyi (論語正義) sometimes quotes Jingzhuanshici instead of explaining function words, and sometimes quotes Jingzhuanshici after explaining function words in order to present the evidence. The characteristics of Lunyuzhengyi’s annotations of function words are as follows: it discusses many aspects of function words by presenting many examples, and adds its own opinion for further explanations. This shows that Lunyuzhengyi (論語正義) is located in a comprehensive annotation of the Analects.
