이 연구는 동사 파생접미사 ‘-대다’에 결합하는 어근의 범주를 정하고 ‘-대다’의 의미와 특성을 살피는 것을 목표로 삼는다. 이를 위해 현대 국어의 동사 ‘대다’와 접미사 ‘-대다’의 의미 특성을 살피고 또한 중세 국어와 근대국어에서 나타나는 동사 ‘다히다’를 살펴 접미사 ‘-다히다’가 ‘슈군다히다’형태로 처음 출현된다는 것을 보인다. 동사 파생접미사 ‘-대다’의 의미와 특성을 살피기 위해 자료를 분석한 결과, ‘-대다’의 기본 의미가 [반복]임을 알 수 있다. 이와 더불어 어근의 의미자질에 따라 동작이나 소리의 [반복], 상태나 느낌의 [지속], 사람의 마음이나 태도의 [정도가 심함] 등 확장 의미가 나타남을 알 수 있다. 또한 접미사 ‘-대다’는 동사, 형용사, 명사, 부사 어근에 결합하며, 불규칙적 어근과도 결합하여 생산적인 단어 형성 활동을 보여 주는데 특히 ‘-대다’는 부사를 어근으로 하여 압도적으로 가장 많은 파생어를 생성한다. 이처럼 ‘-대다’에 결합하는 어근의 범주가 다양하고 파생어의 수가 많다는 것은 동사 파생접미사 ‘-대다’가 여전히 생산성이 높다는 것을 의미한다.

This study aims to determine the category of the root of a word that is combined with the verb derived suffix '-daeda' and to explore the meanings and characteristics of the word '-daeda'. For this purpose, we look at the characteristics of the meanings of the verb 'daeda' and suffix '-daeda' in modern Korean, and also look at the verb 'dahida' which appears in medieval and modern Korean, from which we can infer that the suffix '-dahida' makes its first appearance in the form of 'syugundahida'. As a result of analyzing the data to explore the meanings and characteristics of the verb derived suffix '-daeda', it is found that the basic meaning of '-daeda' is 'repitition'. In addition, according to the meaning quality of its root it can be used in the extended meaning, such as 'repetition' of movement or sound, 'continuation' of status or feeling, 'severity of degree' in one's mind or attitude. The suffix '-daeda' is also combined with the roots of verb, adjective, noun, or adverb, and with irregular root as well, so that it shows productive word formation activities. 'Daeda' forms by far the most derivatives, by using adverb as a root. In this way the fact that the category of the root combined with 'daeda' is various and the number of derivatives are so many indicates that the verb derived suffix is still highly productive.
