본 연구는 원어민 영어 보조교사들을 대상으로 하여 실시한 심층면담을 통해서 그들의 근무실태에 대해서 알아보고 문제점이나 불만 사항이 있다면 개선 방안을 마련함으로써 원어민 영어교사제도가 도입 취지에 맞는 성과를 거둘 수 있도록 하는데 기여하는데 목적이 있다. 학습환경과 관련해서 학년별로 제한된 교육시간이나 방대한 교육과정 내용 때문에 영어 교실에 설치된 첨단 시설이나 장비가 수업 시간에 적극적으로 활용이 잘 되지 않는 점에 대해서 우려를 표하였으며 나아가 수업의 효율성을 가로막는 가장 큰 요인으로 30명이 넘는 다양한 영어 학습 능력을 지닌 학생들이 수업하는 점을 지적하였다. 면담에 응한 대부분의 원어민들이 학교에서 마련해 준 주거지에 대해 비교적 만족하고 있었으나 그들과 같은 원어민들이 함께 모여 서로 정보를 나누고 고충도 함께 할 수 있는 거주 지역을 원하고 있었다. 본 연구는 부산시내 초등학교에서 근무하고 있는 제한된 수의 원어민들을 대상으로 한 질적 방법에 의한 것이므로 질문지 방법의 양적 방법에 의한 후속 연구를 통해 원어민의 근무실태와 직무 만족도에 대한 포괄적이고 다양한 연구가 이루어질 필요가 있다.

The purpose of this study is to examine the actual condition of service for native english teachers through depth interview and to achieve the result suitable for the object of inducement for the native English system, thinking of improving method if there is any problem. They appointed that the installed equipments were not utilized effectively so well due to the limited education time by each grade and the most significant factors decreasing the efficiency of English education was crammed class conditions of over 30 students. Since native English teachers who answered for the interview live around amusement quarters or at remote areas, they feel unsatisfied with their living environment. If they live in the near distance together, the can devote themselves in the education much more in the stable dwelling environment . This study was performed by the qualitative method for the limited native teachers who word at elementary schools in Busan, comprehensive and various studies should be implemented in the future.
