Oral literature studies are less interested in the Naijarang-tale than they are in classical novels. However, I think there is much room for debate on the oral literature level. In particular, there is a lot of room to find oral cultural characteristics in that it is deeply rooted, its area of tradition is wide, the aspect of fliting in it is clear, and it has a patterned style. In this article, I will discuss the orality of Naijarang-tale.
There are four main points for understanding Naijarang-tale. First, there is a fliting in the situation of the problem. Arguing to gain victory by persuading or neutralizing the opponent is also based on oral culture. At the end of the three, using contextual knowledge to suppress the former two and using rhetorical techniques such as inventio, dispositio, actio, and orality is clear. Second, it is the key to contention to choose older people. The oral cultural implications of aging are important, but it is particularly important that the way of revealing age depends on the characteristics of the individual and experiential oral culture, not the objective or abstract one. Third, hyperbole is used. Exaggerated expressions about age are an important expression of oral culture and rhetorical technique. Fourth, it is composed of various episodes sharing the pattern. It is also related to oral cultural characteristics.
As such, Naijarang-tale is a rare work that shows oral cultural characteristics very well. If I can understand the narrative in this way, I think I will be able to broaden my understanding of the related works of classical novels. I think that there is a lot of room for new significance of the work in terms of cultural change with the focus on the change from orality to literacy.
