이 논문에서는 신화의 수용과 변주라는 관점에서 웹툰 《신과 함께》신화편에 나타난 신화의 재해석을 분석하고, 신화의 대중화를 위한 스토리텔링 방식을 검토하였다. 《신과 함께》신화편은 6편의 신화를 컨버전스 스토리텔링 방식으로 하나의 이야기로 재구성한 작품이다. 웹툰에서는 공통의 시공간 배경을 설정하여 신격의 계보를 질서화하고, 개별 신화를 유기적으로 연결하였다. 이러한 선형적 구조는 이야기의 내적 필연성을 강화하고 복잡한 사건과 이야기를 하나로 통합하여 독자의 기대지평을 충족시킨 스토리텔링 방식이라 할 수 있다. 오늘날의 관점에서 신화는 사건 전개의 개연성이 미흡하기도 하고, 등장인물의 내면세계와 심리적 갈등이 구체적으로 나타나지 않는 경우도 있다. 《신과 함께》신화편에서는 상상력으로 원작의 빈 공간을 채워서 사건의 인과관계를 덧붙이고, 인물의 내면 심리를 구체적으로 묘사하여 개연성을 높이는 스토리텔링 방식을 취하고 있다. 《신과 함께》신화편은 시대 변화를 수용한 우리 시대의 신화적 대안이다. 웹툰에 나타난 민중의 현실 변혁 능력, 주체와 타자의 경계 등은 오늘날 우리가 당면한 문제이고, 웹툰의 해결 방식은 초월적 세계를 현실에 호명한 신화적 방식으로 제시된다. 신화가 생명력을 가지고 살아 숨쉬기 위해서는 시대의 변화에 따라 확장되고 변주되어야 한다. 이러한 관점에서 《신과 함께》신화편은 전통적 상상력을 확장한 또 하나의 신화이자 현대의 신화적 대안이라 할 수 있다.

This study analyzed the reinterpretations of myths in the Myths episode of With Gods, a webtoon series, from the perspective of acceptance and variation of myths, and examined storytelling methods for the popularization of myths. The episode put the time and space backgrounds in order and connected individual myths organically. Its linear structure is a storytelling style to reinforce the internal inevitability of stories and incorporate complex events and stories into one, thus satisfying the readers' expectations. Seen from today's perspective, myths lack probability in the development of events and do not show the internal worlds and psychological conflicts of characters specifically in some cases. In the episode, the author filled missing parts up with his imagination, added causal relations to the events, and depicted the internal psychology of characters in a concrete manner, thus increasing probability. The episode presents the myths of our times recreated by accepting the changes of the times. In the webtoon, people's ability to change the reality, the boundary between the subject and others, and the values of individuals and families are the issues we face today. The ways the webtoon resolve those issues seem like mythological alternatives to call a transcendent world in reality. Myths should be expanded and transformed according to the changes of the times to maintain their life force and keep breathing, from which perspective the episode is a new myth of our times that has expanded the traditional imagination or a different modern version of mythology.
