본 연구는 『시집살이 이야기 집성』1-10에 실린 생애담 가운데 서울로의 이주와 정주의 이야기를 담고 있는 텍스트를 분석하여 20세기 초반에 출생한 노년기 여성의 삶에서 서울이라는 도시로의 이주가 의미하는 바를 탐구하는 것이 목적이다. 특히 연구자는 이주와 정주가 생애담 구연자의 정체성 형성과 어떠한 관련을 갖는가라는 문제에 주목하고자 했다. 본고에서 다룬 세 편의 생애담은 모두 결혼 이후 남편과 자식을 두고 혼자서 서울로 이주한 여성들의 이야기다. 백순녀, 박란엽, 김정숙 화자는 고향에서 부모님이 정해준 혼처로 시집을 가서 살다가 가출을 하여 아무 연고도 없는 ‘서울’로 향한다. 본고에서는 이주의 장소로 친정이 아닌 제3의 공간, ‘서울’을 택한 이들의 생애담을 검토함으로써, 이러한 유형의 삶의 양상이 갖는 의미와 의의가 무엇인지 규명하고자 했다. 결혼해서 살던 곳을 떠나 서울에서 또 다른 곳으로 여기저기 떠돌던 이들은 남편을 돌보기 위해(백순녀), 손녀를 키우기 위해(박란엽), 엄마가 되기 위해(김정숙) 정착한다. 이들은 ‘이주(결혼)-시련-시련의 극복(문제 해결)-이주(가출)-방랑-정주’의 과정을 공통적으로 밟는데, 이주의 계기가 되었던 관계 속으로 정주하는 것으로 보아 이들이 집을 떠나 다시 정착하기까지의 과정은 마음속에 맺혀있던 응어리를 풀기위한 여정임을 알 수 있었다. 이들의 생애는 백순녀의 경우에는 남편, 김정숙은 엄마, 박란엽은 자식과의 관계에 맺힌 한과 상처를 풀고 치유하는 과정이었던 것이다. 그리고 이 과정이 반드시 필요했던 이유는 이 여성들이 자신의 삶을 스스로 선택할 수 있기 위해서였음을 알았다. 서울로의 이주와 그곳에서의 개인적인 생활이 이들의 삶에서 갖는 의의와 역할은 그것이 상실할 수 있는, 선택하지 않을 수 있는 삶의 양태라는 데에 있다. 이 여성들이 현재의 삶에 만족하며 자신의 삶을 의미있는 것으로 구성하여 술회할 수 있는 까닭은 과거 자신에게 상처였던 관계를 이후 적극적으로 반복함으로써 치유하였고, 보다 근본적으로는 자신에게 강제되었던 것을 자신이 선택할 수 있게 되었기 때문이었다.

This study is the analysis of the text which incorporates the talk of immigration and settlement in Seoul in The marriage life story assembly. The purpose of the study is to explore the migration of the old age women born in the early 20^th century. In particular, I paid attention to the problem of whether the immigration and settlement is associated with identity formation. In this paper the research object is the story of women who emigrated to seoul alone. Bak sunnyo, Park ranyop, Kim jongsukhad lived away from her family toward the third space ‘Seoul’. This study examined the meaning and significance of the immigration. They settled down in the place where they had married, lived and leaved in order to care her husband(Bak), in order to foster her granddaughter(Park), and in rder to become a mother(Kim). They stepped on in common "immigration(marriage) - test - Overcoming test (troubleshooting) - immigration (runaway) - wandering - settlement". They settled in a relationship that triggered immigration. I was able to know that it is the road to solving the core problem that was floating in the mind. I knew that this woman was able to choose their own life on their own and this is why this process was always needed. Personal life of immigration in Seoul is important. It is because that was in the form of a life of their own choice. She is free to lose such a life. These women repeated their wounds. And it was cured through the repetition. Through these process these women are satisfied with the current of life. And these women can be recognized to meaning their past. In other words, now these women are able to choose which has been forced to themselves and they regard a sacrifice as a kindness.
