본 논문에서는 굿의 한 제차로 연행되었던 맹인 소재 무당굿놀이가 전통공연예술레퍼토리로서의 맹인 재담극으로 공연화되는 과정에 나타난 변이의 양상과 그 경향성에 대해 고찰하여 보았다. 우선 맹인 소재 무당굿놀이와 맹인 재담극의 단락별 구성을 비교해본 결과, 레퍼토리화 과정에서 ‘맹인의 등장’, ‘맹인의 점 치기’ 단락이 확장·부연되었으며, ‘맹인 놀리는 노래’, ‘맹인의 신세타령’, ‘맹인 눈 뜨기’, ‘맹인의 축원’ 단락은 축소·삭제되었다. ‘맹인의 굿상 음식 타박’, ‘맹인의 똥 먹기’, ‘맹인의 경 읽기’ 부분의 경우, 단락 자체는 유지되었지만 그 의미나 내용이 완전히 바뀌었다. 맹인 소재 무당굿놀이가 맹인 재담극으로 공연화되는 과정에 제의에서 놀이로, 주술에서 예술로, 신성에서 세속으로의 변이가 일어나게 된바, 그 과정에 나타난 변이의 경향성은 극적 속성의 강화와 신앙적 기능의 퇴화로 정리해볼 수 있다. 맹인 흉내 내기의 비중이 확대되고, 재담 위주의 대화가 전개되는 변이를 통해 전반적으로 극적 속성이 강화되었으며, 맹인이 독송하는 경문이 패러디 되고 개안모티프가 실종 혹은 변질되는 변이를 통해 신앙적 기능은 퇴화되었다. 이러한 변이의 요인은 굿 현장으로부터의 분리, 맹인을 형상화하는 목적의 변화, 그리고 극장 및 유성기음반로의 유입과 매체 적응 등에서 찾아볼 수 있겠다.

This paper examines the patterns and tendencies of variation in the process of changing from the shamanistic theatres based on the blind, a sacred ritual to witty play where the blind appears, a play for entertainment. As a result of comparing paragraph composition of shamanistic theatres based on the blind and witty plays where the blind appears, the following facts were confirmed. In the process of performalization, the paragraphs of "The appearance of the blind" and the “Divination by the blind" have been enlarged and amplified, and the paragraphs of “Open blind man’s eyes", “Praying by the blind" were reduced or deleted. “Complaints about food for the gut by the blind”, “Blind man’s eating poop”, “Reading a Sutra by the blind” are the case where the paragraph has been retained but its meaning or content has completely changed. The process of changing from the shamanistic theatres based on the blind to witty play where the blind appears is described as the transition from proposition to play, from magic to art, from divinity to secular. The tendency of variation in the process can be summarized by the reinforcement of the dramatic property and the degeneration of the religious function. The dramatic property strengthened of the shamanistic theatres based on the blind through the transformation of the expansion of blind imitation and dialogues centered on joyfulness. And the religious function was degenerated through the parody about the scriptures and the disappearance or alteration of the motif of opening the blind man’s eyes.
