조선 초기 건국세력들은 자신들의 건국이념인 주자주의에 맞춰, 그리고 중국의 제후국으로서의 정치적 위치에 부합하는 방향으로 의례를 정비한다. 그 과정에서 이전왕조까지 지속되던 민간의 단군 숭배를 포함한 제천의례와 단군신화가 자신들의 이념에 부합하지 않는다는 문제의식을 갖게 된다. 이들은 신화와 의례 사이의 정치적 문화적 괴리를 조정하기 위한 논의를 상당 시간 지속했고, 그 결과 1403년에 편찬된 『동국사략』에 처음 보이는 국인추대형 단군신화, 곧 조선형 단군신화를 제작한다. 신인이 내려오자 국인이 추대하여 왕으로 세웠다는 간략한 신화 서사는 천명론, 민심천심론, 천인합일론 등 유가의 정치 이념에 부응하는 것이었다. 이 조선형 단군신화는 1413년을 전후로 하여 제도화된 평양부의 단군-기자 의례와 조응하면서, 나아가 유가적 교육과정에서의 신화 읽기와 암송 과정을 거치면서 통해 양반 사대부 계층의 ‘상식’으로 자리 잡는다. 이 상식은, 대한제국기와 근대계몽기에 단군에 대한 재의미화 작업, 그리고 근대적 교육 과정을 통해 조정될 때까지 지속된다. 그러나 그럼에도 불구하고 『세종장헌대왕실록·지리지』라는 공식 문헌이 비조선형 단군신화, 다시 말해 조선 이전부터 전승되고 있었던 단군신화를 수습해 놓은 것은 민간의 의례와 결합되어 구전되고 있었던 신화적 전통을 인정할 수밖에 없었다는 뜻으로 이해된다. 조선 초기는 이 같은 이원적 신화-의례 구조의 출발점이었고, 이는 유가 이념의 필연적 결과였다.

The ideology of the founding group of Joseon was Neo-Confucianism. They needed a new ritual and a myth corresponding with their political ideology. So they made Eungjesi(應製詩) type, a type of Dangun myth. This type of myth was recorded in Dongguksalyak(東國史略) that was compiled in 1403 for the first time. And they enshrined Dangun(檀君) & Giza(箕子) together in Pyeongyang City from 1413. In this ritual system of Joseon, the rite of Dangun was not a celebration for heaven but for the progenitor. The celebration for heaven belongs to only the Chinese emperor. This official Dangun myth was reinforced by periodical ritual system and the education of the high class children, the making of new history books. But Several type’s traditional Dangun myths and rituals had been maintained in lower class or folk customs of the early Joseon Dynasty. These myths and rituals were a reality that can not be ignored. So Dangun myth and ritual in the early Joseon Dynasty divided into two parts. As a result, two types of Dangun myths were written in the official literature, Sejongsilrokjiliji(世宗實錄地理志).
