이 글은 초등 교과서에 수록된 세 편의 동화를 대상으로 원작과의 비교적 관점에서 교과서 텍스트의 문제점이 무엇이며 왜 문제가 되는가를 살펴봄으로써 원작을 변형한 교과서 수록 동화로 현행 교육과정이 추구하는 ‘문학’의 교육 목표가 현실적으로 실현가능한 것인 가를 탐색하기 위하여 쓰였다. 「우리는 한 편이야」에서는 원작의 중심 사건이 왜곡되어 원작의 본질적 의미가 폄하된 것은 물론 무리한 축약과 각색으로 제목에 함축된 의미도 무의미해진 것을 확인하였으며, 「행복한 비밀 하나」에서는 인물의 뚜렷한 성격이 원작의 특징임에도 불구하고 주인공의 독특한 개성이 상실된 것은 물론, 인물의 성격을 나타내는 주요 표현이 생략되고, 불필요한 내용의 첨가와 그릇된 수정으로 원작의 가치가 훼손된 것을 확인하였다. 또한 「이모의 결혼식」에서는 원작의 핵심 키워드가 모두 삭제되었을 뿐만 아니라 미숙한 수정과 편집으로 ‘다문화’ 문제와 관련된 작가의 의도가 희석된 것을 확인하였다. 연구 결과, 교과서 수록 동화의 수정 작업에 이렇다 할 기준이 없고, 작가와 작품에 대한 존중을 찾을 수 없었으며, 원작의 지나친 변형으로 애초의 작품 선정의 이유가 불분명해졌고, 문학성이나 창작기법적인 측면에서 변형된 동화의 수준을 볼 때 문학 작품에 대한 이해 정도에 문제가 있다고 판단하였다. 결과적으로 현재의 교과서 수록 동화로는 현행 교육 과정의 ‘문학’ 영역의 목표 달성은 요원한 것으로 파악하였다.

This paper is, ranging in three children's stories in the elementary textbooks, to examine what the problems in textbooks are and why they are problems, from the comparative viewpoint with original works. Also, this paper is to explore whether the education objectives of 'literature' seeking in the present education curriculum are feasible realistically or not with the transformed children's stories of the original works in textbooks. The problems that this paper confirmed are as follows. In the 'We are One Team‘, the central event of the original work is distorted, the its essential meaning is diminished and the connotative meaning in the title becomes less important by the excessive contraction and adaptation. In the 'A Happy Secret', in spite of the feature in original work of the distinct personality, the unique individuality of main character is lost. In addition, the main expressions reveling the personality of character are omitted and the value of the original work is damaged by the unnecessary addition of contents and the mistaken amendment. In the 'A Wedding of Aunt', all of the vital key words are deleted and the writer intentions related to the 'multi-cultural' affairs are waning. This study shows that there are no particular standard about the amendment work of the children's stories in textbooks and there is no respect for the writers and works. Moreover, this study shows that the original reason for selecting works. by the excessive transformation of the original works becomes uncertain and there are problems in the understanding degree for works in the literary value and writing technical respects. In conclusion, this paper grasped that achieving objectives of 'literature' area in the present education curriculum with the children's stories in the present textbooks is remote.
