우리의 눈으로 러시아 영웅담의 구조적, 내용적 특징을 찾고자 하는 것이 본 논문의 과제이다. 이를 위해 영웅담이 갖고 있는 보편적인 특징 몇 가지를 불변적 요소로 선정하고, 이를 이야기의 흐름에 따라 배열하여 기본적인 구조로 삼고, 분석도구로 활용하였다. 이 분석도구로 러시아의 대표적인 영웅담 중 <볼흐>를 중심으로 다른 여러 러시아 영웅담과 비교하며 구조분석과 내용분석을 시도했다. 구조분석에서는 러시아 사람들이 한 영웅의 행적을 이야기 할 때 무엇을 중요하게 여기고, 어떠한 방법(구성)으로 그것을 전달하고자 했는지를 살피는 것이고, 내용분석에서는 러시아 사람들의 의식과 무의식에 나타나는 가치관 혹은 세계관 등을 살피는 것이다. 이를 위해 구조분석에서 활용한 기본적인 영웅담의 구조적 틀 아래에서 러시아인들의 잠재의식을 엿볼 수 있는 실마리의 역할을 하는 코드들을 찾아 의미를 부여하며 설명하는 방식으로 전개하였다. 이에 앞서 영웅담과 관련하여 ‘러시아인’이란 누구를 말하는 것인지와 러시아 구비문학에서 영웅담의 위치와 특징 그리고 러시아 영웅담의 특수한 역사적 배경을 살펴보았다.

The Purpose of this article is to find the structural and substantial peculiarity of russian epic. To accomplish this purpose, some general character of epic are selected as constant elements and a basic structure is installed in reliance their arrangement in epic and this structure is utilized as an instrument for analysis. By this instrument is russian epic volch analyzed under point of structural and substantial view in comparison with some other epics. In the analysis of th point of structural view are watched what is dealt as an important thing to describe an achievements of heros lifetime and in which structure are they put. In the analysis of th point of substantial view are watched the value view or world view of russian which is represented on the consciousness and the unconsciousness. In order to do these things are tried to find the code as a clue to see their unconsciousness and to interpret these codes. In advance is tried to define who is russian in connection with epic and to examine the position of the epic in russian folklore and to see their historical background.
