본 논문은 원형 개념으로서의 ‘변신’이 갖는 본질적 요소 내지는 특성이 무엇인가를 이론적 관점에서 고찰한 것이다. 기존의 연구에서 정의내린 ‘변신’ 개념을 토대로 하여 형태, 의지, 존재의 세 가지 문제를 추출한 다음, 이에 대한 각각의 문제를 고찰하였다. 그 결과 원형 개념으로서의 변신은 형태, 의지, 존재라는 세 개의 문제를 기본적 특징으로 한다는 것을 파악할 수 있었다. 따라서 변신 설화를 이해할 때, 또는 원형 개념으로서의 변신을 이해할 때 이 세 가지 문제의 상호 유기적 관계를 고려하여 이해할 필요가 있다고 본다. 원형개념으로서의 변신에 대한 연구는 현상학적으로는 ‘몸에 대한 실천 철학, 또는 몸철학’에 집중될 수밖에 없을 것이지만, 그 나머지의 문제들, 즉 의지나 존재의 문제를 고려하지 않고서는 변신은 아무런 의미를 획득하지 못할 것이기 때문이다.

This paper determined, from a theoretical point of view, the fundamental elements or characteristics of ‘transformation’ as an archetypal concept. Based on the concept of “transformation” as defined in established research, this paper distilled the salient elements to form, will, and being, and then examined the various issues associated with these characteristics. As a result, it was determined that transformation as an archetypal concept was fundamentally characterized by these three elements of form, will, and being. Accordingly, in understanding transformation tales, as well as in understanding transformation itself as an archetypal concept, it is necessary to consider and understand the organic relationship existing between these three elements. The phenomenological study of transformation as an archetypal concept will naturally be focused on the practical philosophy of the body, or ‘philosophy of body,’ but if we do not consider the remaining issues―that is, the issues of will and being―transformation will lack any meaning at all.
