본고는 일제강점기가 전통성, 근대성, 식민성이 착종되었던 시기였다는 점에 착안하여 대중가요에는 그러한 모습이 어떻게 나타나는지를 구체적인 작품을 통해 살펴본 것이다. 가족을 소재로 한 일제강점기 대중가요는 크게 ‘전통적 가족 가치의 재생’, ‘새로운 가족 형태의 출현’, 그리고 ‘가족의 해체와 아버지의 부재’로 나누어 살펴볼 수 있다. 그리고 각각은 전통성, 근대성, 식민성을 대변하면서 공존하였다.
먼저, ‘전통적 가족 가치의 재생’에서는 자식이나 아내의 입장에서 어머니에 대한 그리움과 떠나서 돌아오지 않는 남편에 대한 기다림을 표현한 노래가 많았다. 음악적으로 이러한 노래들은 당대 주류를 차지하였던 애조의 트로트 형식을 차용하였다. 다음으로 ‘새로운 가족 형태의 출현’은 당시에 새롭게 등장한 소가족의 풍경을 보여주고 있다. 주로 만요로 이루어진 이러한 노래들은 아내와 남편의 대화로 이루어져 있으며, 당대 소시민의 욕망을 과장되게 표현하여 웃음을 유발한다는 특징이 있다.
마지막으로 ‘가족의 해체와 아버지의 부재’는 군국가요에서 나타났다. 국가에 대한 충성을 강조하는 이러한 노래들은 아내가 남편에게, 남편이 어머니에게, 혹은 어머니가 아들에게 보내는 편지나 고백으로 이루어져 있다. 그러나 이러한 작품들은 오히려 일제에 의해 희생된 가족의 모습을 보여줌으로써 도리어 가족의 소중함을 깨닫게 하기도 하였다.
This paper considers the actual texts base d on the hybridism of traditionalism, modernity, and colonialism of the Japanese occupied period. Popular songs about the family are divided into three themes, the regeneration of traditional family values, the appearance of a new family forms, and the reconstruction of the dismantled family and family ethics. Each grouping coexists while representing traditionalism, modernity, and colonialism.
First, the regeneration of traditional family values are songs which express the affection of the mother and waiting for the husband who left. These songs mostly borrow the minor ‘Trot’ forms musically. Next, the appearance of a new family forms are songs which describe the scene of a newly established of small family. These songs are 'Man-yo'(comic in nature) and consist of conversations between spouses.
Last, the reconstruction of dismantled family and family ethics are songs which have a theme. These songs emphasize loyalty to Japanese imperialism and consist of the speaker's confessions or monologues. Despite this, notions of the sacrificed family by the colonised subjects are also present
