문화변동이 외적인 환경 변화라면 이에 대응하기 위해서는 학문 내적인 새로운 문제의식과 이에 걸맞은 새로운 연구 관점 및 방법의 모색이 반드시 있어야 한다. 과연 구비문학연구는 이에 대해 어떻게 답할 수 있을까? 이 논문은 구비설화의 화자론을 통해 이 문제에 답하려 했다. 우선 구비문학연구 전반에 걸쳐 문화변동에 대한 인식이 철저하지 못했음을 반성해야 할 것 같다. 새로운 연구 시각이나 관점을 생산해내지 못하고 기존의 연구 시각에만 기대어 관성적으로 연구를 해온 것도 여기에서 원인을 찾을 수 있다. 화자론을 보면 이러한 경향을 뚜렷이 파악할 수 있다. 구비설화 연구 분야 중에서도 가장 선구적인 업적을 이루어냈음에도 불구하고, 초기의 연구 시각이 40년에 걸쳐 그대로 유지되어 오면서 이제는 더 이상 연구의 새로운 동력을 찾기 어려운 상황에 처해 있다고 판단된다. 디지털 혁명의 시대라고 한다. 생활 곳곳에 침투해 있는 디지털 기기들은 소셜 미디어 시대라고 칭할 만큼 사람과 사람의 연결성을 높여주고 있다. 그 어느 시기보다 상호작용의 강도는 세졌고 통합의 가치는 높아졌다고 할 수 있다. 이러한 문화변동의 양상과는 거꾸로 구비설화의 화자론은 끊임없이 소수의 전문 이야기꾼에게만 초점을 맞춰 이야기문화의 핵심을 설명하려 한 것은 아닌지 반성해 봐야 할 것 같다. 문화변동의 관점에서 봤을 때, 구비문학연구에 가장 시급한 것은 관점의 변화와 방법론의 모색이다. 최근의 문화변동 혹은 패러다임 변화의 핵심을 다루고 있는 여타의 학문들과 교류하면서 새로운 연구의 관점 및 방법을 적극적으로 모색해야 하는 시기이다. 화자들의 관계나 청자에 대한 연구를 왜 하지 않느냐고 당위적으로 이야기하는 것이 중요한 것이 아니라, 화자들의 관계 혹은 청자에 대한 연구가 구비문학의 창조성과 전승력을 설명하는 데 어느 정도 긴요한 구실을 하는지를 해명하면서 관점을 전환시키고 구체적인 방법론을 열심히 궁구하는 것이 훨씬 중요한 것 같다.

If external cultural contexts are changed drastically, we have to seek for a new viewpoint and methodology to respond to the culture change. Indeed, how the study of oral literature answers this question? We try to answer this question in this paper with the study on narrator of oral folk tales. First of all, we reflect ourselves about lack of thorough awareness of culture change. We didn't product a new viewpoint and studied oral literature customarily depending on existing viewpoint. With the study on narrators, we understand easily this tendency. Although this branch have achieved many pioneering achievements, it have kept the beginning viewpoint during the 40 years and so it don't have any more energies on study. In this age of digital revolution, digital devices to permeate into daily life, have increased human relationship. The concepts of Combination and interaction are more important than any ages. But going against the times, the study on narrators has pursued special narrators constantly, and so we have to reflect deeply on it. From a culture change's perspective, the study of oral literature needs the change of viewpoint and the seeking of methodology as soon as possible. We have to interact with fields of study on culture change and paradigm change. It is more important to understand that creativities of oral literature don't depend on only narrator's ability, but varied member's relationship in storytelling site
