이 연구의 목적은 학생의 흥미를 높이기 위해 국어 교과서의 제재가 갖추어야 할 요건에 대해 알아보는 것으로, 국어 교과서에 수록된 제재 11편에 대한 고등학생의 흥미 정도와 흥미롭게, 혹은 흥미롭지 않게 생각하는 이유를 분석하였다. 서울 소재 고등학교에 재학 중인 남학생 21명, 여학생 23명 총44명을 대상으로 설문 조사를 하였고, 제재에 대한 흥미 정도는 4점 리커트 척도로, 흥미에 대한 이유는 서술형으로 응답하였으며, 서술형 응답은 관련 있는 반응을 묶어 범주화하고 주제를 생성하는 방식으로 분석하였다. 분석 결과 제재에 대한 흥미의 평균은 2.46으로 나타나 흥미롭지 않다는 결과를 보였고, 성별로는 남학생 2.57, 여학생이 2.35로 남학생의 흥미가 약간 높았으나 통계적으로 유의하지는 않았다. 흥미의 이유에 대한 응답 197건을 분석한 결과 내용 및 형식의 새로움이 54.31%로 가장 많았고, 개인적 관심, 이해 용이성, 동일시, 수업의 영향 등의 응답이 있었다. 흥미롭지 않게 생각한 이유에 대한 응답 157건을 분석한 결과로는 이해의 어려움이 40.76%로 가장 많았고, 내용 및 형식의 지루함, 개인적 무관심, 동일시의 부족 등의 응답이 있었다. 흥미를 높이기 위해 교과서의 제재는 새로움, 이해 용이함, 개인적 관심, 동일시의 요건을 갖추어야 하는 것으로 나타났다.

This study investigated high school students' interest in Korean language textbooks. For this purpose, surveys were conducted among 44 students in a high school in Seoul. Results from the study documented that these surveyed high school students were not so interested in text. Their average score of interest was 2.46 on the 4-point scale. By gender, boys’ score was 2.57 and girls’ 2.35, the boys' interest was a little higher but it was not meaningful statistically. According to the results from analyzing 197 answers on descriptive questions about reasons for their interest, 54.31 % answered the novelty of content and form, and other answers included personal interest, text being easy to understand, identification, and influence of lesson. According to the results from analyzing 157 answers about reasons for their lack of interest, 40.76% answered text being difficult to understand, and other answers were the content and form being boring, personal lack of interest, and lack of identification. The findings of data analysis showed that, to increase students' interest, textbook texts require novelty, easiness to understand, students’ personal interest, and identification.
