정치권의 부패와 사회 전반의 부조리를 총체적으로 드러내는 세월호 사건은 한국인에게 처절한 시련과 고통을 안겨주었다. 흔히 인생은 고해라는 보편적 인간 운명을 논하곤 한다. 그러나 특정 공동체가 다른 공동체와 달리 유난히 겪는 집단적 고통이 있다. 그로 인해 발생하는 집단신경증에 주목할 필요가 있다. 프랭클은 집단신경증에 대한 집단치료 방법으로 로고테라피를 제시한다. 이 글은 그 방법을 우리문제에 활용한다는 기대를 가지고서 철학적 치유와 매개되는 지점을 탐색한다. 철학적 접근의 주요 기반은 자유의지 여부이다. 로고테라피의 핵심은 의미의지와 자유의지의 발휘이기 때문에, 프랭클은 자유의지를 강조한다. 그러나 그가 자유의지를 논할 때마다, 오히려 숙명론이 부각되는 역설이 일어난다. 그의 의도와 달리 자유의지와 숙명론의 딜레마가 반복된다. 이 글은 왜 딜레마가 발생하는지, 딜레마 해소 방법은 무엇인지를 탐구하여 자유의지의 가능성을 살려낸다. 더불어 과거와 현재의 삶에 대한 회고적 의미를 통해 미래 초월을 야기하는 그의 독창적 입장을 한국사회에 적용해 본다.

This essay stems from Viktor E. Frankl's words of group therapy and group healing by use of his logotheraphy. Because almost every Koreans were suffering from the aftermath of Sewol ferri's accident in 2014, I hoped and guessed that his logotherapy would be effective to that sort of Korean including myself. As soon as I read his book, especially a preface of Psychotherapie fuer den Alltag, his intention of publication reminded me Korean group neurosis and group healing. But I realized that his position was based on fatalism during my continuous reading of his books. He asserts his logotherapy makes noogenic neurosis patients recover their wills to life and meaning by free will. I got an issue his words meet with a difficulty though. In other words, his logotherapy is faced with a dilemma between free will and fatalism. So I study and justify if my issue is right, and then whether his logotheraphy involves human free will and choice will or not.
