경기도 양주 지역 구비문학 공동 조사연구의 일부인 이 글은 양주를 표본으로 삼아 신화적 구비서사의 현재적 양상과 의미를 살핀 것이다. 양주 지역 구술 현장에 존재하는 신화적 구비서사의 특징은 1)고대적 신화 서사의 약화, 2)도깨비 이야기를 둘러싸고 벌어지는 신이한 세계의 현존에 대한 논쟁, 3)신화적 담론의 세대간 단절 현상으로 요약할 수 있다. 이를 통해 우리는 전통적인 의미의 신화는 이야기판에서 대부분 소실되었으며 신이한 세계에 대한 경험이 경험담 형식으로 이야기판의 논쟁 속에 남아 있다는 것을 확인할 수 있다. 다시 말해 신화는 거의 사라졌지만 신화적인 것은 지속되고 있다. 이런 현상은 양주지역에만 한정된 현상은 아닐 것으로 생각한다. 신화적인 것의 지속과 신화의 세대간 단절 현상은 신화 교육을 포함한 이야기 교육의 문제를 오늘 우리에게 심각하게 제기한다.

This is to look round at the current aspect and meaning of a mythic oral narrative with a sampling survey of Yang-ju area. The characteristics of mythic oral narrative existing in oral preforming field of Yang-ju area are as follows. 1)the weakness of ancient mythic narrative, 2)the dispute about the existing of the mysterious world surrounded the fairy tale, 3)the extinctive phenomenon between generations of the mythic discourse. Through these, we can find out that the myth of traditional meaning disappeared in oral preforming field and left the experience tale around the mysterious world in a dispute. In other words, the myth disappeared but the mythic phenomenon is existing. I think that this phenomenon is not limited in Yang-ju area. The continuance of mythic being and the extinctive phenomenon between generations of the myth are bringing the problem of a story education including a myth education.
