여기에서는 구비설화가 갖고 있는 미디어적 성격을 네트워크적 관점에서 살펴보았다. 구체적으로는 구비설화가 전승 · 전파하려는 정보는 무엇인지, 그것을 구비설화는 어떻게 관리하는지, 그리고 어떠한 방식으로 전달하는지, 이 과정에서 구비설화가 가지고 있는 네트워크 미디어적인 성격이 어떠한 역할을 하는지에 대해 논의하였다. 여타의 미디어와 마찬가지로 구비설화도 정보를 전달하는 과정에서 정보를 해석하고 구성하는 과정을 거친다. 정보의 주요한 맥락을 없애 버리는 단순화의 과정, 삭제된 맥락을 대체할 수 있는 새로운 맥락에 정보를 동화시키는 맥락화의 과정, 맥락에 기반을 두고 필요한 정보를 추가하는 정교화의 과정이 그것이다. 이렇게 해석되고 구성된 정보가 네트워크의 형태를 가진 미디어를 통해 전파된다는 점이 특히 주목을 요하는 부분이다. 구비설화가 네트워크 미디어의 성격을 가지고 있으며 그것에 의해 정보를 저장 · 보존하고 교류 · 탐색해 나가는 최상의 조건을 만들어 간다는 점을 확인하였다. 척도없는 네트워크라는 독특한 구조를 띤 구비설화 미디어는 위상구조적인 견고함을 통해 정보의 저장과 보존에 탁월함을 보여주며, 더 나아가 맥락의 변화에 맞추어 새로운 정보 네트워크를 창발해 낼 수 있는 조건 또한 갖추고 있다는 점도 확인할 수 있었다. 이상의 논의를 바탕으로 공동체 개념에 대한 변화를 모색하였다. 물리적인 공간에 근거한 생활공동체의 목가적 신화에서 벗어나 사회적 연결망이라는 관계의 개념을 추구해야 한다는 점을 특히 강조하였다.

This research looks around medium's character in folktales from a network's point of view. For instance, what the messages folktales want to deliver and spread is, how folktales manage and deliver it, which roles network medium's character in folktales plays in this process. Folktales analyze and organize messages in the same manner as the other media. Simplification is the leaving out of message's principal context, assimilation is the supplement of new context to alternate old context and the adaptation of messages to the new context, and elaborateness is the addition of messages to need in strengthening the new context. It is noteworthy that Organized messages in this process is delivered by media with network structure. In this research, we confirm that folktales have the medium's character and the finest conditions to keep, preserve, interchange and search messages. It is caused by scale-free network structure. Scale-free network has the structural robustness to guarantee superiority in keeping and preservation of messages and the conditions to guarantee emergence to support context's changing. Finally, this research asserts that it is the time to change the concept of community. Specially, we have to free ourselves from village's bondage and pay attention to relational property of social network in the concept of community.
