이 논문은 무당이 굿 가운데 하는 연극인 무당굿놀이와 강릉단오제에서 공연하는 가면극을 분석함으로서 공동체문화를 형성하는 공동체문학의 실체를 살펴본 것이다. 무당굿놀이에 등장하는 인물이나 내용은 굿을 통해 신과 인간이 화해하고, 또 보잘 것 없는 존재일수록 중요한 존재로 여겨지는 무속적 세계관을 반영한다. 또한 무당은 연극가운데 주민들이 함께 할 수 있는 민요를 부르거나 마을 주민들과 함께 연극을 함으로서 공동체를 실현하고 있다. 강릉단오제에서 하는 가면극은 강릉지역 서낭당에서 모시는 신들이 인격화되어 나타난다. 강릉지역 서낭당에는 대개 세분의 신을 모시는데 서낭신, 토지신, 여역신이 그것이다. 서낭신은 마을을 수호하고 토지신은 생업의 번창을 도와주며 여역신은 외부로부터 들어오는 잡귀를 막아주는 신이다. 가면극에서는 남녀 서낭신은 양반과 각시가 되고 토지신은 장자말이, 여역신은 시시딱딱이가 되어 등장하는 것이다. 또한 연극의 내용도 남녀신의 만남과 화해, 늙은 신이 죽고 젊은 신을 맞이하는 굿의 성격을 충실하게 반영하고 있다. 하지만 관노가면극은 시시딱딱이와 각시를 통해 상층계층에 대한 비판적 공격을 보여주면서 연극적 긴장을 유지한다. 공동체 신앙의 틀안에서 민중중심의 공동체 문화를 발현하는 것이다.

The character or the content that appears in Mudanggutnori reconciliate with the gods by exorcism. Also the more worthless being the character is, the more important character it becomes which reflects the shamanistic view of the world. Not only, during the play the exorcist can sing folks songs or act together with the dwellers. By doing this community spirit is being realized. The mask drama performed in Gangreung Danoje festival impersonates the gods worshiped in ‘seonangdang’, located in Gangneung province. There are three gods worshiped in seonanddang, in Gangneung province, ‘seonang god’, ‘toji god’ and ‘yeoyok god’. The seonang god protects the rural community, the toji god helps the business to flourish and the yeoyok god keeps away and minor demons from entering the village. In the mask drama the male and female seonang god appears as the yangban(the upper class) and a doll bride. The toji god appears as the ‘Jangjamali’, the yeoyok god appears as the ‘Sisitaktake’. This is how the gods appear in the drama. Also in the drama it clearly reflects the characteristics of exorcism, which is the old god dies and the young god is greeted. As a drama not only does it have amusement, but also, it has the community's belief and culture.
