이 연구의 목표는 19세기 말과 20세기 초에 걸쳐 진행된 노래 문화의 변화와 노래 공동체의 재편 양상을 잡가를 중심으로 살피는 것이다. 이를 위해 조선 후기와 일제시대에 걸쳐 존재했던 잡가의 존재양상을 밝히고, 이것이 근대 노래 공동체의 형성에 어떻게 기여했는지를 밝히려 한다. 잡가의 위상 변화와 수용층의 조직에 매체가 중요한 역학을 담당했으리라는 것은 이 연구의 중요한 전제가 된다. 19세기 말～20세기 초에 존재했던 잡가의 존재양상과 소통방식의 추이를 추적하다보면 신분에 기반한 노래 공동체, 지역에 따라 분화된 농촌 중심의 노래 공동체가 해체되거나 재배치되는 의미있는 현상을 발견하게 된다. 아울러 노래 공동체가 형성. 유지되는 요소가 신분, 혈연, 지연, 생활에서 자본의 흐름, 취향, 여가, 신념으로 대치되고 있다는 것도 알 수 있었다. 이러한 과정은 곧 근대 노래 공동체 형성을 향한 과정으로 보아도 무방할 것이다. 근대적 노래 공동체는 자본의 유입, 생산, 대량 소비를 기본으로 하는 대중문화 시대의 도래와 함께 자연스럽게 형성되어 이전에 형성되었던 노래 공동체를 대신하는 새로운 형태의 수용자 집단이라 정의해볼 수 있다.

The Purpose of this study is to see how changes on song culture and song community were reorganized centering around Jabka which took placed in end 19th century and early 20th century. To this end, it's to show aspects of existence of Jabka that existed through end Chosun Dynasty and Japanese occupancy period and how it contrituted to creating modern song community. Assuming media took important role in status change on Jabka and recipient structure suggests imporant premise to this study. Tracing Jabka's aspects of existence in end 19th~early 20th century and development of communication method reveals significant phenomenon that song community based on social status transformed into the community beyond the social status and regional song community rooted in agricultural district changed to one centering around urban cities. Also social status, blood relations, territorial relations and lifestyle which elements to establish and maintain the song community were substituted with capital flow, taste, leisure and faith. This process could be seen as the process to form modern song community. The modern song community was natually established with introduction of mass cultural phase in which bringing the capital, manufacturing and mass consumption formed fundamentals. It can be defined that new song community is new recipient group that substituted traditional song community rooted in rural villages.
