현재 학술진흥재단의 Future Korea Project는 모든 학문분야를 지원하고 있지만, 특히 문학교육의 입장에서 보자면 중고등학교에서 실시하고 있는 현장교육과 대학에서 이루어지는 문학연구를 연계할 수 있도록 지원해주고 있다. 교사와 교수가 함께 참여하여 대학에서 이루어진 연구성과를 중고등학교에 직접 실시할 수 있는 기회를 제공한다. 중고등학교에서 국어과목 중 문학교육, 특히 고전문학교육은 학생들의 흥미 유발이 쉽지 않은 것으로 보인다. 구비문학교육 역시 사정은 같다. 교육에 있어서 흥미 유발은 학습 효과와 직결되는 문제이기 때문에 무엇보다도 중요한 연구대상이 되어야 한다. 그러나 듣기, 말하기, 읽기, 쓰기 중심의 국어과 교육에서 구비문학을 대상으로 한 흥미유발이 쉽지 않다. 본래 구비문학은 국어과 교육에 한정할 수 없는 다양한 요소들을 가지고 있다. 그럼에도 불구하고 언어 활용이라는 기능을 중심으로 국어교육이 이루어지고 있기 때문에 구비문학이 가지고 있는 다양한 학습적 장점들을 충분히 살려내지 못하고 있는 것이다. 문학교육은 무엇보다도 학생들의 창의력 신장을 위해 기여해야 한다. 구비문학은 그 자체가 풍부한 상상력의 소산이기 때문에 만약 학생들이 흥미롭게 접근하기만 한다면 창의력 신장을 위한 효과는 다른 어떤 과목보다도 월등할 수 있다. 따라서 구비문학에 대한 흥미 유발과 창의력 신장은 전혀 다른 문맥이 아닌 것이다. 본 연구는 구비문학교육과 창의력 신장교육을 연계할 수 있는 방안의 하나로 현장체험형 학습을 강구해 보고자 하는 것이다. 특히 지방문학으로서 구비문학교육의 현장화 추진, 고전문학으로서 구비문학교육의 현재화 추진, 구비문학교육을 통한 창의성 신장 프로그램의 구현, 유·초·중등교육으로 확장할 수 있는 구비문학교육 프로그램 구축, 연구지원 시스템의 적극적 활용을 통한 구비문학의 활성화 추진 등을 거시적 목표로 삼는 가운데, 개별 작품, 즉 서동요를 선택하여 어떻게 현장학습을 실시할 것인가에 대한 구체적인 방안을 모색해보고자 하는 것이다.

The importance of regional culture has been often stressed as a major issue, but it sounds like a typhoon in a teacup. The field of language and literature in the colleges of humanities in almost all universities around the country are organized according to the units of national identities, such as the departments of Korean language and literature, English language and literature, and Chinese language and literature. National literature and language have been the main attention of education and research, so there is no room left for regional culture. Regional culture cannot be ignored in the field of geography or history, either. It should be given careful consideration that the crisis of humanities studies may be caused by an adherence to the outdated frame of the units of such departments that have been formed since the nineteenth century. False representations of Korean culture have been made not only in the academic field but also in the society. Oriental culture has been regarded as inferior to Western culture, and regional culture spoken as having a lower taste than the culture of the national capital region. Such a judgment or evaluation is problematic in the sense that it is not a reasonable result ensured by justifiable criticism or objective examination. A newly-coined word called "gregionalization" is being used nowadays. Both issues of globalization and regionalization are pursued together in the twenty-first cultural age that passed over the agricultural and industrial society. The time has come when the existing but outdated social consciousness should be removed and a new concern with regionalization or regional culture is about to grow. Educational system reform, academic-industrial cooperation, and a connection with on-the-spot education for the revitalization of regional culture must be promoted on university campuses. Subdivisional sciences can be dealt with successfully through the study of education system reform, the communication of the colleges with the society can be kept open by academic-industrial cooperation, and knowledge acquired on the campus can be distributed in the connection with the field education. Methodological necessity is more urgent in the case of the special field of regional culture. Cultural policy, cultural education, and cultural industry for the revitalization of regional culture should be also extended. The exterior phases of science need to be expanded in the present age when the technological application and social use of sciences are more highlighted than an attachment to pure sciences. Eventually, regional culture can be revitalized not merely in academic studies but in the support of political, educational, and industrial measures.
